PLEASE do not make the same mistake that I did and eat at this restaurant due to these outlandish positive 5 star reviews. My mom and I originally planned to dine at a Local Thai place but it was closed so we decided to check out this spot nearby. Inside decor was nice & spacious and one male server was working the main dining area, but that's as good as it gets when it comes to pros. We have no grievance or complaints with the server as he did a good job of taking our orders and checking in. The food was appalling to the point where my mom & I were stunned by what they were serving. Even for the American diners that are used to "Asian fusion," this was nowhere close to being edible in the way that it was presented or tasted. *APPETIZER- Chicken karaage "A popular Japanese fried chicken dish made with bite-sized chicken pieces marinated in a soy and ginger sauce and coated in a crispy potato starch batter" * They butchered this Japanese classic chicken appetizer. They didn't do the chicken from Harrison poultry service by coating it in some light tempura batter that didn't stick to the meat & fell apart upon arrival. It had none of that delicious caramel color coated batter on the outside. Please refer to the pics- that's all the proof you need *SPICY TUNA, RAINBOW ROLL & MISO *we ordered our go-to rolls as it was a good way to gauge how fresh the fish is, the rice texture, and overall taste *KYOTO, how could you send out the rolls looking like this ? You had plenty of sushi chefs on deck, it wasn't that busy of a night & yet, the presentation was beyond subpar. Upon arrival, my mom & I could tell the fish was not fresh- the color of the salmon, shrimp, tuna were muted and had no shine or flavor, the sushi rice was cold and rubbery, and the rolls were poorly made. Photo for reference. Also, how could you mess up the miso soup out of all the food items ? On both of our soups, there was one sad tiny tofu, there was no green onions in there, it was served luke warm & it tasted worse than "ready made" miso packets that they serve at the Asian store. If you're looking for a hot tea to go with your meal, don't bother with their $2 green tea that they serve in a tiny mug on its own without a hot pot of water. The server noticed how we were not enjoying our meal and ended up asking if everything was alright at the end of our meal. We discussed our complaints & stated it was not due to his service but rather the quality of the food. The manager or other staff members did not come by to follow up or inquire about our meal. Ugh, this place was an utter disappointment. There's not a lot of great sushi places in the suburbs, but this place is a big NO. Save yourself the hassle and go to Renga Tei in Lincolnwood where you’ll find good quality of sushi, appetizers, and real matcha tea. My mom and l left hungry and disappointed, and ended up having some food and hot tea at home. Kyoto, this was a huge let down. We saw the male manager who was helping clean tables, but there was zero customer service from him. Other diners deserve to know what type of food is being served at this so called Asian restaurant.

Wow, I don't know what happened today, but our experience was the opposite of the positive reviews here. We recently found this restaurant and were very excited to try it with these good reviews. The food was not great, and I especially would not come back because of the service. The older server was so MEAN!! From the start, she looked angry and had a very unpleasant attitude. But we wanted to give this place a chance so we carried on. However, what made me angry was when she YELLED AT MY MOM for asking a question. We ordered a roll, and we saw that roll going to another table and getting returned to the chef. After few mins, the same roll was served to us, and all my mom asked was if this roll was the same roll that was served to the other table. And the server YELLED saying it was NOT THE SAME as if we asked a really stupid and unthinkable question. My God, she could've just explained the situation so we can understand what happened. WE DON'T NEED TO BE YELLED. To make matter worse, the food was not great. Nigiris were okay, but we especially disliked the asparagus beef roll which was super salty and dry. The maki rice didn't have sushi rice flavor and was bland. The spicy tuna was those crushed blended tuna that you can find in grocery sushi. We really wanted to give this place a try, but we will never come back. It was the most unpleasant service I ever experienced and ruined my family dinner.

This was a pretty decent Japanese restaurant. Quality and prices aren’t the best but they have nice decor and the portion sizes are very generous. I guarantee you won’t go starving if you order entrees and sushi rolls. I think they try to add some “fancy items” but they should just focus on keeping it more simple. This is far from being fine dining. I got the tonkatsu entree, green turtle speciality roll, and a scallop sake shooter. Tonkatsu was a little dry but still edible. They probably shouldn’t have cooked it too long. Green turtle specialty roll was good. It’s shrimp over bbq freshwater eel and it does contain some wasabi mayo. Everything was balanced, not too much rice. The scallop sake shooter was a bit of a letdown. Maybe the oyster would have gone down easier. The scallop took a bit to slide down from the glass to your mouth. It does have a bit of spice to it. Overall, a 3. Service was okay, they could be more attentive like refilling waters and asking if we need anything. Tonkatsu - 3.5 Green turtle - 5 Scallop sake shooter - 2

It was ruined anniversary dinner! I hope someone from admin reads these reviews and can implement changes which will make things better as you never know what people come to celebrate to you and it's really hurting when the occassion is wasted by unappropriate or undertrained waiter stuff. The place seems nice, modern, packed on Sat night, with interesting menu items, so we decided to explore it and ended up wasting money and our time. Few things that created aweful experience at this place: older woman waiter lacks English skills and overall manners (maybe cultural/ language barrier). We felt rushed, when we asked questions about menu item she was taking it as order, couldn't answer simple questions and only thing you can do with her it's tell her the name of item. No explanation, no help. She also was dissapearing for quite good chunks of time so we had to ask for help of other waiters who were nicer. When our waiter was coming back she was scolding us for dealing with other waiters (first time I see such behaviour!). The disaster happened when we got the fillet mignon spring roll which was with raw meat. We didn't want raw meat and were very surprized and shocked so when we called other waiter she stated that's how it comes! We were so shocked that we didn't know what to do and my husband asked for other entry with meat (+40 $). The order was taken without word of apology or attempt to remediate. 5 min later when we rationalized and asked for the roll meat that was still seating at our table to be finished and cooked as we still have to pay 18$ for this uneatable item, they said "Yes, we can do it!". Amazing and when it got cooked it was tasty! But that still means we had to pay extra $40 for the trio entree which we ordered in shock and noone tried in first place to fix problem with raw order. Now as I look at their menu I see our mignon spring roll should have "grilled meat" which means "cooked". So we actually were served the wrong item, misled and overcharged at the end!! Horrible experience, I will avoid this place by all means and never suggest it to anyone. Please relocate the older woman waiter to "non-customer" facing role and train or allow you other staff to remediate orders if they...

Today was supposed to be a nice Mother's day for my wife. I read reviews about this place and was expecting what others had wrote about this place. Close to 5 star service and awesome food. When we got there, it was packed. We got seated pretty quickly as they prepped our table. Well, that was the best it was going to get tonight. We waited over 1 hour for the 1st entree to arrive, then another 15min or more for the next and then 10 more minutes for the next entree. I get it, but then we patiently wait for the sushi orders to arrive. It's now been 2 hours! We said cancel the order and they all of a sudden are talking to the 2, only 2!!! Sushi chefs in the whole place! As packed as it was, only 2 sushi chefs working! They rush our order, and we get 1 sushi, was supposed to be JUMBO scallops...IT was NOT JUMBO. Due to the chefs hurrying to try and make it so we don't cancel, the sushi is so bad. It was sooo small, rice was undercooked and no taste. Same for the 2nd order which came 15 min later. We cancel the last one. We can't even remember anymore what we ordered. I get the bill and we see we are still charged for that non- existent 3rd sushi! Now I am mad, because we even told the waitress to cancel the order! Another wait staff comes to talk to us. I tell her, it's mother's day and my wife waited almost 2 hours to get subpar sushi that looked like it was from the grocery section! Almost $150 dollars. No Ill feeling from the management, just a bunch of excuses for the worst service ever! We saw alot of people just gazing, wondering when they were going to get their food. The elder lady waitress was so unprofessional talking and complaining the whole time to the chefs. She was speaking her native language, which my wife understood. Overall, expectations were high and this place literally disappointed on...
