Decided to try supporting a local business over ordering the set we were looking for online. Unfortunately, that went so poorly. After 3 months of waiting we finally received 1 out of 5 items approximately 2 weeks before the baby's due date. When delivering, the owners husband, asked when we would be receiving the rest to which we told him we had been told within a week. He snorted and said good luck with that. He then told us some of it had been discontinued and is on backorder. When we contacted Shelly, the owner, she said that he doesn't really know what he's talking about and he just does a lot of the driving so not sure why he would say that. A couple weeks go by and still hadn't seen the rest of it so we get an update. Apparently now its just a few days more. Finally, while were in the hospital in delivery the order is here and available to be delivered. I go home shortly after the baby is born to accept the delivery and this is where things got really crazy. Instead of the remainder of the order being delivered its just another piece leaving 3 out of 5 still not delivered. At this point I was angry and asked the owners husband, the delivery driver, what is going on because we had been told the rest was going to be delivered. He replies that he doesn't know anything about that and only has the 1 piece for me. Low on sleep and frankly tired of this business not being clear/honest I demanded some more information. He then reveals that he actually did know he was supposed to be delivering the remainder but that the supplier had only given them the 1 piece so that's all he could deliver. I demanded to know why they hadn't just said so and he said that they just tell their customers (me) what the supplier tells them. I then asked him why they didn't just tell us when they found out to which he replied that they don't give their customers updates like that. At this point I got really angry because I felt like they were just lying through their teeth to me and demanded to know what the plan is for the rest of it. Again, the driver claimed ignorance and couldn't answer. I explained my position to him and asked if he understood why I was so upset and what he suggests. He actually told me that if we now have the baby and they still hadn't delivered 3/5 pieces "to go find it and buy it somewhere else". I lost it and raised my voice at this point letting him know how ridiculous that was since I had already paid them nearly a thousand dollars months ago. This driver, the husband of the owner, then tells me that he didn't say that and in the same sentence tells me that im hearing things. Well I got really mad then and yelled at him asking if he had really just said that. He began escalating the argument and finally I told him that he needed to just leave my property or I'd call the police for trespassing. He actually argued that he wasn't trespassing and refused to leave. Mind you at this point this driver does not need anything from me yet he is refusing to leave my property and escalating an argument. I decided it was time to be loud as things were getting out of hand. Started yelling that he needed to leave or I'd call the police in the hopes that one of my neighbors might hear and come help. After a few rounds of my yelling that he needs to leave right now he takes a step towards me and says "no, you know what i need to do?" and trails off. I began to back away and asked him if he was going to finish that sentence or just leave. He finally got in his truck at which point I called his wife, the owner, and let her know what was going on and that if he didn't leave right now I was calling the police. The driver actually got back out of his truck and accused me of stealing his dolly which he had accidently left in my garage, I told him that I didn't steal anything and told him to get his dolly and then leave. Thankfully he actually listened to this, got the dolly, and got back in his truck. Unfortunately he loitered outside my house for the next few minutes just staring at me and I had to call the police...
Read moreThis is not a takedown of this store but I think it's important for buyers to have all the information before they purchase their baby furniture here. Firstly, Shelly and Ric are very nice people and the furniture we have received is high quality and those are the only reasons there are two stars and not one.
We purchased our baby's furniture on June 7th, including a crib, dresser, and recliner. Originally we were told 6-8 weeks which was well within our due date. When that time came and went we started asking questions and Shelly let us know that it can take 10-12 weeks with furniture. This was frustrating as it's not what we were originally told, but we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Our crib (and only our crib) arrived at right about the 12 week mark on August 28th. We had to wait another two weeks until we got our dresser September 15th, four days before our son was born. I asked for a floor model recliner to use until we got ours, and to their credit they did loan us a different model that is still in our nursery. It is now a whopping 22 weeks from our original order date and we still don't have our recliner.
Shelly has told us how furniture manufacturing works and "these things happen" a number of times but at some point you need to make it right with the consumer financially. The only thing I've asked is that they include the cost to hire help to move the floor model recliner from our nursery and have the new one brought up instead of their usual delivery to the garage. No word on this yet. As a small business, you need to be better about the things that keep you in business like, transparency and customer service.
Needless to say, this has been a huge strain on our pregnancy and new parenthood these past 6 months. Right when you don't need heaps of extra stress. Even though we planned 4 months in advance of our son being born, when shopping here, we should have bought as soon as we had a positive pregnancy test in order to have the...
Read moreI wish that I could offer more than five stars for this company. Throughout our entire experience, it was obvious to us that Ric was invested in fitting his customers with the right product first! His customer-centered focus and personable nature reminded us of what is idyllic of American business. We enjoyed looking around his store and exploring the furniture in the various rooms he had setup. Ric was around for questions when we had them and he made sure to be available without being overbearing. We left to compare furniture quality and pricing with a big-box store and immediately decided that Décor 4 Kids was the place to be! (Note: He was even willing to stay open late when we called near closing to let him know we would like to return and purchase our nursery)
Not only was the quality of the furniture exceptional, the prices were very reasonable and the experience was somewhat sentimental â gifting our son (then not born) a small stuffed toy. Further, Ric was very upfront with us about what steps he could take to guarantee our satisfaction. Once purchased, our furniture delivery date was later than promised, but with Ricâs up-front and informative explanations, this ended up not being a big deal. He worked with us trying to plan our timeline for delivery based on the communication he was receiving from out-of-state American manufacturers. Once the furniture was delivered and we had it setup, he reached out to us just to follow-up with our satisfaction. We are VERY satisfied! We will have another child one day⊠and DĂ©cor 4 Kids can count on our patronage again. I will recommend everyone I know to this business for its experience, quality, and price! Thank you...
