The experience has been mixed for me. I'm not sure how I feel about the eight-week classes. The easier general education courses, like psychology and English, are manageable in that time frame. However, the science classes and more challenging courses are quite demanding in just eight weeks. It would be helpful if they warned students in advance about the workload involved and also give students the opportunity to enroll in 16 week science classes. I signed up early in advance and they were already filled up.
I work full-time, and I unfortunately got sick, which caused me to miss two classes. As a result, I felt overwhelmed and couldn't catch up. While the compressed schedule might work for some, it's not ideal for someone like me with full-time commitments. Additionally, communication could be much better. For instance, my professor mentioned that there would be a study session for the midterm practical on a specific day from 10 AM to 3 PM. However, when I arrived, I found multiple science classes all crammed into one room. This caused confusion and stress for me, especially since I had missed class due to being sick. I thought I needed to study everything covered in the lab session, when in fact it was just a mixture of various science classes. I ended up wasting my time, and the atmosphere was chaotic.
Another frustration I have with Ivy Tech is that I've never met my assigned advisor. It has always been a random advisor available for drop-in sessions. I would prefer to have a single advisor throughout my program who understands my goals and can provide consistent support. I've met with at least three different advisors so far. Additionally, when registering for classes, the setup is rather impersonal. The process takes place in a large room with multiple computers and people around, which lacks privacy. It feels like they prioritize efficiency over personalized guidance.
Overall, it just wasn’t a good experience for me. I hope this helps a prospective student who is...
Read moreIvy Tech is one of the worst community colleges I have ever experienced. They screwed me out of getting an associates by mysteriously finding requirement after requirement for me to meet. I was a transfer student to Ivy Tech and they stretched out getting an associates to a three year nightmare in which I never actually got my associates. If you are thinking about going remember YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET! And this is a cheap crappy school with a serious lack of student help. I guess when you sit down and pay $3,000 somewhere in the papers they reserve the right to screw you over when ever they feel like it. I wanted to do this in a professional way but I can’t. Ivy Tech actually ruined my...
Read moreTerrible experience so far. I haven't even registered for classes yet and they are already making me reconsider their school. First off they are having me appeal to get financial aid when I haven't attended their schools in over 12 years. It is like pulling teeth to get ahold of any advisors here and the advisor I was appointed wants to rush me to start school this fall when I originally wanted to start this spring. I heard the appeal process takes 30 days no way I will be ready to enroll at the rate they are going to schedule follow up appointments to process the appeal on their end. No one ever answers the phone. Strongly reconsidering applying elsewhere for...
