I have so many pros and very few (one) cons about the Alpha Wall tent. This is our second canvas wall tent - the other purchased from a different, but popular and respected, tent company. The PROS on the 12 x 14 Alpha Wall tent (w/ porch): *The frame!!!!! The frame is so easy to put together as the poles are jointed and connected. All parts are easy to identify (rafters are different from legs and both are different from side & center poles) and the 3 - and 4-ways for roof and walls are different colors so you can quickly tell where they belong. The legs are attached to footers which grab the ground (or in our case platform), which prevent the leg poles from falling out of the joints. The other poles have buttons which pop in place. We are expereinced tent people and we cannot believe the difference from our other canvas tent (which is an 8 x 10). The Alpha frame took maximum 15 minutes to assemble. Our other tent takes much longer because parts have a habit of slipping out of place. *The windows! A great idea to be able to open from the inside as well as the outside! No more running out at night if it gets chilly to shut the windows. No more running out in the morning to let the light in. Love, love, love the windows. *Zipper quality on the door. It feels a little heftier than our other tent, and we love that it comes with clips to hook it open (our other tent does not). *The vinyl floor - much better quality than the best tarp. *The Guy wire system!!!!!! This is fabulous!!! All guy wires come attached to the tent (and rain fly and porch!!!!), are excellent quality, and are reflective for night time. No more fussing around looking for, cutting, and knotting paracord (as with our 8 x 10). The system literally takes minutes to tighten once the canvas is on the frame. *The porch - so glad we purchased this. It took an additional 10 minutes to erect and provides a dry shelter for 6 feet in front of tent. *Not a major priority - but the tent/frame/porch arrived beautifully packaged an the frame wrapped. Now - the CON - which does not particularly impact quality - it is just a preference. --I do not like the sod cloth being attached to the last 12 inches of the tent. Our other tent has the canvas going all the way to the ground, with a vinyl sod cloth attached inside the canvas for about 4 - 6 inches. This allows the canvas to be tightened to the ground (or platform) with the ability of pulling the sod cloth inside for better seal. Whiteduck has about 12 inches of vinyl at the bottom of the tent. We knew this was the case (can see it in pictures and asked cust srvc rep), but thought it a minimal dislike...and it is minimal. All in all - I would absolutely recommend this tent. The 12 x 14 is quite heavy, but my husband and I were able to hoist it up and over the frame with just the two of us (and I am 5'1"). We have had it up for several weeks now (including in heavy rain) and are looking forward to spending teh summer...
Read moreFirst, the only reason I gave 4 and not 5 stars is because there were two minor errors in the advertising material, and I'm a stickler for details. The included stakes were all the same design, and the catalogue shows two types are included. I contacted White Duck and they said they were correcting the advertising. The other error states there is a hanger on the center pole for a lantern. There isn't one, but I assume on the larger tents that hanger is included. I will rig something up for my solar lantern. (Please never use a fuel lantern in your tent.)
Now the good news. I purchased the 8' Mini Regatta for kayak camping and winter camping. I set it up in my yard and let it get rained on for two days to season the fabric. When the rain stopped, I checked how much water was in the tent. Absolutely none. The canvas inside surface was wet , but not one drop of water was on the floor. The next two days were sunny and windy and the tent dried out perfectly. The tent is now seasoned and ready to go.
It's usually windy where I live, and over the four days the tent was up, I didn't have to adjust the guy lines once. The tent was very solid. I eventually replaced all the black reflective guy lines with bright orange ones. Just my personal preference, I seem to trip a lot. The aluminum line tensioners were excellent. Usually cheap, useless plastic ones are included with tents.
The tent stakes were the standard pin type, which every tent maker seems to include. The ground is very rocky and hard where I camp/kayak, but I have lots of other stakes to replace them.
The tent was roomy inside, I could very comfortably sit, and stretch out. I'm 5'5". The mesh vents will be appreciated on hot days. There are small vents on the roof to help with condensation. The door opens wide and the mosquito mesh will keep the uninvited out.
A very large hard rubber mallet is included to pound in the stakes. I laughed when I saw it. An excellent mallet.
I would only make one tent design change. Instead of the door pole going through the canvas, could a pocket inside the tent be used to hold that pole in place? The plastic rain cap for the pole fits very snugly, and as I said, no rain entered the tent. I contacted White Duck to purchase a spare rain cap, and they sent me one for free. Very nice customer service.
Winter has really begun where I live, and it will be nice to winter camp in a canvas tent instead of a nylon one. Very happy I made the purchase.
Remember, there is no bad weather, just bad clothing and gear. A...
Read moreI was in the search for a wall tent. I have always wanted one but discouraged about how hard the process can be getting one. What company? What options are a necessity? Whatâs the warranty like? Do I need to buy my own poles? Does it have a floor? The process seemed to be overwhelming and I put it off. I recently attended a hunt expo where Whiteduck had a tent on site as well as 3 other major brands of wall tents. I was able to look them all over and see the pros and cons of each company. Some charged more if ya wanted a window. Some only had canvas and you had to cut your own poles but for $150 they will provide you with a cut list. When we went to Whiteduck it almost seemed to be too good to be true! It literally came with everything! A nice thick durable floor that connects to the frame. 4 windows, a nice screen for warmer nights, awesome wall poles with a foot pedal to keep things in place, all the tie down guy lines attached. It came with all the stakes and even a hammer to put them in! I went with the fire and water canvas and we were in some of the nastiest storms throughout the year and it kept us dry dry dry!! We did have a small issue with a back wall but Whiteduck is awesome and standing by their word and warranty! You literally have a piece of mind knowing you bought a quality tent with these guys! We have a stove in ours and the canvas keeps everyone nice and warm as it keeps a lot of the heat in! We recently were in 15° nights and sleeping on top of our bags because it was so cozy! I can not say enough good things about this company and the products they put out! If you are looking for a wall tent do yourself a favor and buy Whiteduck! You will not be disappointed and definitely no regrets! They have sizes to fit any family needs! We are a family of 6 and I have the 14x16 with everyones sleeping gear and stove we still have room to put up a folding table to eat dinner in the warm! So once again if you are looking for a wall tent donât waste your time on any of the other brands! This is where you need to be!! I will forever be a Whiteduck customer and spokesman for them! Thanks Whiteduck for going above and beyond to provide a quality, easy set up, and...
