I have been trying to avoid writing a review about the store. However, every time I have gone my experience with Brian has been the same. My main descriptors for his sales interactions would be (offputting, unwelcoming, and gimicky).
I just came back from the store again as I have been trying to peek back in to buy a frequent customer of the store something in return for his kind interaction towards me my 3rd time visiting the store. During my 3rd visit a customer by the name of Ed bought me a CSM combat patrol box and didn't ask for anything in return. He was welcoming someone new into the hobby.
Since Ed's generous interaction I have bought over $1000 in CSM merchandise and some items for my friends who originally got me into the hobby. Today I return after purchasing a box of Blood Warriors I hope to use as Khorne Berserkers in my future games.
During this particular sale, I first entered the store and was welcomed in (good start). Proceeded over to the CSM section, after which Brian approached me and asked what I was looking for, I told him I was looking for a Sorcerer in Terminator armor, to which he responded with "no, but it's easy to make out of a box of terminators... what else?" I told him that was all I was really looking for because they buffed terminator armor in 10th. Following that, he backed off and went back into the group of people painting.
I then was looking into the Chaos Knights and Khorne Berserkers/Blood Warriors as I was curious to see how allying units into my army might work. As I hold the Chaos War dogs he says "That's a good box." to which I respond hoping to get more info on allying units, and maybe some help deciding. But when I started talking about it he went quiet and just said "yeah."
So I put the war dogs down, grabbed a box of blood warriors and was ready to leave. At this time I felt again (I've felt this way during my previous visits) as if I was not wanted in the store. I approached the register to check out.
Brian silently approached, scanned the box, picked up the card scanner without telling me the total. Outstretched his hand holding the reader, I scanned my card. The receipt was silently handed to me. I said, "have a good one" to which was met with silence.
I feel he greets customers fine. However, when it comes to interactions about what they are looking to buy, he should try to build the customer up. "Oh, I'm sorry we don't have that model in store, but I think it's cool you want to build tankier units. What else do you like about CSM, maybe I can suggest something that would fit your needs."
If there doesn't seem to be a sale behind the interaction, he is out. I am an extremely thematic and passionate player who focuses on the game development, art (illustration and sculpture work), and themes of the armies. If you talk to me about that and invite me to look at other miniatures or allies then I am more likely to buy more. In addition, I played one game there and he was, in my eyes condescending to the kids who are about 17-22 who normally game there.
I feel I have tried to give as many chances as I can, but that feeling stays the same. I say this also having interacted with David who used to run the store, who was pleasant. After I find Ed and buy him something in return for his kindness, I think I may have to go elsewhere for continued knowledge and to support Warhammer.
I'd write a lot more, but I think I got my point across. Brian if you read this maybe you were upset because you were going to lunch in the next 30 mins or something else was going on. I don't think I can or this review will change your attitude overall. Wishing you the best of luck...
Read moreFantastic hobby for young and old alike. Combines model building and painting with video game-like play. I've been to a few Warhammer/Games Workshop locations, and this one hold up their high standards. They not only have all the materials you need to get started, but will take the time to give you a free painting lesson and patiently answer any questions you might have.
My son had a model that didn't come out quite right, so they owner showed him how to rescue it from the garbage with the use of an epoxy like modeling computers and some details sculpting tools. Also gave him a lot of tips for painting.
Then, I asked if he could show us the mechanics of they game play and how to get stated. He took the time to give us a tutorial and familiarize us (mostly me) with how the "system"worked, and how each model has different abilities and strengths. I must say, the Warhammer Game isn't that difficult to learn, and the extensibility with different characters and forces makes it a combination of Risk and Magic: The Gathering. Plus collecting and painting the models is just good old fashioned fun!
The prices are a bit high, but not really when completed to video games There is a premium, but that price comes with seemingly endless patience to explain how to paint and play, and the opportunity to return for painting help and game play on their expansive game boards.
Highly recommended as a fun activity for kids, families and an alternative to electronics and...
Read moreDavid is the man. So welcoming and thoughtful. Always trying to ensure you get the most value. Always willing to chat lore and ensure you are fully receiving your perks. I know this hobby is niche and can get expensive but i see this store doing it's part to bring a less intimidating approach. Warhammer models are pricey but the detail can't be beat and when you add it the customer service david provides, it is worth it to me. Spray cans, hobby tools, great paint and more available here. Haven't gotten into the gaming side yet but I'll know where I'll go when I'm ready and with the pandemic slowing, looks like that side of the house is ready to receive me with open arms. Go in, ask whatever questions you have, and you might find a fun little community to...
