I give them a three which I think is very fair, considering our circumstances. We had to wait a long time to get in even though we had a reservation. It was extremely crowded and because it is so open it was so noisy. You couldn’t hear the person across the table talk. I like the way that Hackney has rooms and it breaks up the noise. I had the fish and chips and it was the best I’ve ever had in my life. Cod is not a light fish, but somehow they made it taste super super light and fluffy. It was perfectly cooked in a unique way deep fried super delicious and extremely large portion. The only thing it comes with is fries of course it’s fish and chips and the fries portion was small but the amount of fish you get more than makes up for that. Some restaurants give you a lot of fries and not much fish. This is the opposite of that so I guess it’s a good thing but I mean super super delicious the best I’ve ever had in my life. My wife had schnitzel and I was thinking it would be like German schnitzel, but she knew it would not because it’s a British style restaurant so she knew it would be different. We’re both glad they don’t use veal that usually taste better but that’s baby cows and we don’t eat veal. It was made of pork and she said they needed to use a different card and they need to pound the meat and it would be a lot better. My wife is very picky about meat being overcooked and dry. She said it was exceptionally exceptionally dry. It was one of the worst dinners. She said she’s had in five years. The spastel so which is a German pasta really wasn’t the way it should be and wasn’t really a German pasta. I guess that also makes sense, but they put it on top of the breaded meat which then made the breading be kind of soggy. She said she would never recommend eating there and I actually would recommend eating there but only get the fish and chips it’ll be the best you’ve ever had in your life. We had an appetizer salad and we’re not even sure what it was but it was so super delicious. My wife thought it was some type of wrapped lettuce, but to me it seemed somehow they took the skin off of an apple and then took an outer ring and then made a leaf out of it and put stuff in that we’re not sure but it definitely had apples chopped up in it. We’ve never had anything like it in our life and it’s super super...
Read moreDevils on Horseback which are sweet bacon wrapped dates stuffed with white cheddar. A small but incredible bite. Alongside those we tried the Housemade Crisps & Dip. These potato chips were durable and not crazy salty wich is nice because that didn’t take away from the dip. However, I did wish the dip had more onions to add more savoryness, it felt a little dill heavy. The Tomato & Leek Tart had a solid buttery ad flaky base with a hint of sourness from the goat cheese, I really liked this dish. As someone who is a huge fan of duck, I had to try their duck confit tacos. The duck texture was almost like a stew, and they use griddled roti to complete a soft and very flavorful bite. As a burger fanatic, I was told I needed to try this tavern burger. It features Iowa cheddar, their own take on a gentleman’s relish, vidalia onions all sandwiched by their own house made crumpets. The crumpet is soft, the beef is super juicy, and the relish had some unique funk to it from the anchovies. I definitely haven’t had a burger like this before. As for dessert, the sticky toffee pudding did not disappoint. Moist and sweet from the buttermilk ice cream, and a comforting dessert to wrap...
Read moreI absolutely loved the entire expirence! This has become the best restaurant in Glenview. We walked in early and had a beautiful table along the river. Finally someone in Glenview took advantage of this beautiful feature of Glenview! The cheddar cheese puffs and bacon wrapped dates were to die for. The pecan crusted hake was cooked amazingly, over a green cabbage mixed with a super delicious sauce. I’m not usually a cabbage person and didn’t realize it had cabbage, but let me tell you it was the best I’ve ever had. I’m so happy I ordered it. We tried the short ribs and the schnitzel….both were absolutely amazing. And dessert…wow…the banana foster and the STICKY CARMEL PUDDING CAKE WAS INCREDIBLE. Our waiter Richard was awesome…we were his first table he served, what a gift! He did an incredible job and so did the man who was cleaning the tables, He got us things we needed right away like a straw and a clean fork. I hope he gets recognized too, i unfortunately forgot his name, we asked for it though! I cannot wait to go back! May more places in Glenview learn from them and may the village of Glenview be inspired too to keep taking advantage of the beautiful river...
