Scandinavian Butik — Local services in Norwalk

Horrible on-line shopping experience, and worst customer service ever!

We ordered two large Flæskestege from Scandinavian Butik for our Christmas Eve dinner. Flæskestege are pork loins with the skin on, the centerpiece of a traditional Danish Christmas Eve meal. They should have a fat layer on top of a mostly lean piece of meat, making them about 25% fat and 75% meat. Scandinavian Butik's Web site advertised each Flæskesteg as weighing 5 to 6 pounds.

What we received instead were two Ribbenstege. These are pork bellies with the skin on, much smaller than the Flæskestege we ordered (the Ribbenstege weighed 3.1 and 3.4 pounds), mostly fat with little meat (around 75% fat, as one would expect from a pork belly), and a very poor substitute for the traditional Flæskesteg. Our family has been eating Flæskesteg for Christmas Eve dinner for generations, and we are a family of cooks, chefs, and caterers. We are well aware of the differences between these two cuts of pork.

Needless to say, we wrote to Scandinavian Butik requesting a refund for their mistake. Their response was nasty, petty, and argumentative. It was obvious from the first sentence that they had no intention of taking our experience seriously. We replied to their e-mail, but our first impression proved 100% correct -- after nearly four weeks, we've received no further response from them. We are upset and disappointed, first by a ruined Christmas Eve dinner and then by Scandinavian Butik's utter lack of concern for their customers. They have our money, and that seems to be all...

Carries a fair amount and representation of basic Scandinavian goods, you can have coffee and cinnamon buns there. Frozen shrimps, some pork products, sausage and cheeses. They have candy bar with Scandinavian candies, licorice. They sell seasonal decorations too. Pleasant service.Word to the wise, if you are sure that you know better than them what a Prinsesstårta really looks like - insist on it. We ordered one for Christmas, they gave us a different cake and insisted that this was what it really looked like. They were wrong and we ended up getting a credit...

Great online shopping experience! I was able to get a real, imported flaeskesteg for a special occasion, that even came with the skin pre-scored. It was delicious and my guests were knocked out! The staff was even nice enough to catch on my order that due to the (relatively) short distance from my home to the shop that I didn't need to choose overnight shipping, and they adjusted my shipping option and refunded me the difference - would highly recommend for your...
