I rarely write reviews, but in this case a review is warranted. Bill McMillan, owner of Novato Computer Service, knocked it out of the park.
My experience involved two key factors: (1) successfully fixing a non-working computer, and (2) incredible customer service.
My 2009 iMac suddenly stopped working. It wouldn’t reboot to the desktop. Based on a favorable recommendation I engaged Bill to help resolve the situation.
Having worked in the computer industry I am well aware that computers are wonderful when they work, but can be a real pain when they don’t, and can be even more difficult to diagnose and fix. My iMac fell into this category. It took several visits to reach resolution.
On each occasion that I visited Bill, he rigorously tested the system after getting it to run properly, I checked it out at the store, everything looked good, I took it home, but the iMac failed to work within a few days—a real head scratcher. After replacing the 10 year-old disk drive with a new solid-state disk drive (no moving parts and much better performance), and making a few internal adjustments, the iMac is now rock solid. The improved performance is wonderful!
Bill is a consummate professional. He was true to the guarantee that he offers. He worked with me through each challenge, each visit to his store, with great willingness and in a mood of curiosity and wonder. There was no additional charge. He certainly knows computers and has great integrity.

He explained clearly and in advance what he planned to do and once he identified the problem, explained how he would work on it. He kept me fully advised of everything and completed the job in a reasonable amount of time at a reasonable price. I would unhesitatingly go back to him again with any future computer problem.

Update: After I got my computer set up at home, it would not connect with my wifi. So I called my internet provider (Comcast xFinity) and spent an hour on the phone with a tech support person. Unfortunately, she was not able to determine what the problem was or how to fix it. Finally, she said it must be something in the computer itself. So, I called Bill and told him about the problem. Within five minutes, he suggested a solution that worked perfectly and I am posting this update using that computer. Thanks again, Bill!
