I’ve been using this YMCA for some time now and overall, the facility itself is well put together and organized. The layout makes sense, and it’s easy to navigate between workout areas, classrooms, and the pool. The bathrooms are also relatively clean, which I appreciate, especially with young kids in tow.
The front desk and adult staff are generally friendly and helpful. However, I have noticed that some of the younger staff members tend to be disengaged. It’s not uncommon to walk in without being acknowledged, and often they seem more focused on their personal conversations than on greeting or assisting guests. A small thing, but it makes a difference in how welcome you feel.
My children participated in the swim lessons for four weeks. While I understand the time constraints and group size make individualized attention difficult, I was disappointed to see that the structure and content of the lessons never changed. Each week was a repeat of bubble blowing, jumping in, and being pulled around the pool. This didn’t feel like real skill development, and I expected more progression over the month.
Additionally, on one visit, I overheard the lifeguard staff openly complaining about having to get in the pool for lessons. That kind of behavior, especially in front of families and kids, comes across as unprofessional and reflects poorly on the program.
To be clear—I don’t dislike this facility. It serves the community well, and there’s definite value in what it offers. But customer service and youth program engagement are areas that could use more attention and...
Read moreI only started here in May and I can't say enough good things. First of all the staff has been super supportive and kind during my journey to be in better shape. In particular for me, I have never been able to run in my life due to my medical conditions and with the classes and personal training I have been doing I am getting closer to my goal than I ever have in my life! The personal trainer Kelly has gone above and beyond making me feel like I can achieve my goals. Roxanne's class I take has been so fun and supportive as well. Everyone in the front has been amazing too, you can tell they remember who comes in and make you feel so welcome.
As for my kid, my kid has ASD so I was so nervous to come in and put her in the daycare and let her enroll in activities because I was worried how it would go. The daycare employees Miss Emily in particular has been amazing and eased my fears so much. She did swim class here and they were amazing with her and she turned her intense fear of the water into knowing how to swim. Now we are even doing youth sports, and it is all because I have confidence that the people here are amazing and know what to do to make her feel comfortable.
All this to say, if you're on the fence about signing up I highly recommend it. I have never felt closer to my community than I have since I...
Read moreWhen we first started our child there in the Volley ball team, things were great, all the kids had a wonderful time, then, the new coach of my daughters team decided that she was going to take the trophy every year. As she stated, she would do anything to win! Well after my daughter playing 3 seasons and being on the championship team on two of those seasons, the new coach Niyama decided on the week of the last game that the team had for the season, to call our family on a Sunday and tell my daughter she would no longer be welcome to play on the team the following year. Well it broke her heart. It was the most devastating event in her life, since the coach was aware that she had been going through some teen age mental issues dealing with life in general. this women made the game about herself, and the heck with the Children that the Y was set up to help. The management made matters worse. When we rejected the idea she was not welcome to play on the same team after two years, they canceled her membership, no refund by the way. Now we previously observed this coach was selecting children and declining the ones she thought would not make her a winner! If this is what you wan to teach your children, take them there!...
