ROKC Olathe is a functional, thoughtful, multipurpose, and collaborative climbing space. Built upon the most successful elements of ROKC North, it took everything I love about climbing to the next level.
The climbing space: it’s more of a true tall wall climbing experience. The lead climbing options are extensive, and the wall features 24 autobelays and a huge amount of top roping options as well.
The free weight/cardio space/studio: though I’m including these three together, they’re actually on two separate levels of the facility and each could essentially be a standalone gym in terms of size and variety of equipment. The free weight area is extensive and features top of the line equipment, as does the cardio space on the second floor. The yoga/fitness studio is MUCH bigger than its north counterpart and can accommodate large groups.
The super cool bonus features: specified party area for birthday parties, etc. This area is allowed to be used by anyone so long as there isn’t an event going on and has a bunch of autobelays. Otherwise, it’s where birthday parties and other things of the like will be held. I think this was SUCH a good idea and will limit the Sunday afternoon birthday party crowdedness. Also, a SAUNA. Yes please.
The collaborative spaces: scattered throughout the gym, there’s a plethora of seating/hangout options to watch others climb or to relax and get some work done. The counters overlooking the tall wall space have outlets so you can plug in any of your devices, and the couches/chairs are new and plentiful. Also, a lot to get excited about with apogee opening right next door! Even more seating and options to drink coffee, beer, wine, etc.
I’m sure there’s some other feature about this gym that I’m forgetting, but bottom line is: it’s a great space. I would literally spend my whole day at this gym if I could. It has everything I could ever need and I am so excited to see how successful it is in the future....
Read moreThis was my first visit to this gym, and I was very pleased with the layout, the height of the walls, and the number of auto-belays. The routes didn’t feel very creative though, and the movement on the auto belays seemed more like climbing a ladder at times versus getting creative with body positioning. However, my main disappointment came from their lack of preparedness to Top Rope and Lead certify me. I came by myself and prepared to climb by myself since I live out of town, but when the opportunity arrived for me to climb with someone I went to the front to ask to get certified. They had a garage sale going on outside, and because of the garage sale they didn’t have anyone available to even Top Rope certify me. This was extremely disappointing! As a climbing gym, you should always be prepared to certify your customers- Climbing should be your first priority. It was very disappointing to see that they were prioritizing a garage sale over the first priority needs of the gym- The climbers and their experience. Overall I still enjoyed my time climbing there and definitely got a great work out in. However, I would challenge RoCK to evaluate if they are working to ensure customer experience is their number one priority. If I lived in the KC area, and I had other gyms to choose from, this experience would contribute to my decision to choose a different gym to take my...
Read moreI’ve been a regular member at ROKC Olathe for years, and I can’t recommend it enough. The environment is always welcoming and friendly, making it a place where climbers of all levels feel at home. The staff is truly outstanding—especially Eli, who is consistently friendly, inviting, and informative. He always goes above and beyond to make sure everyone feels comfortable and supported.
One of the things I love most is how well the routes are set. Over the past six months, I’ve noticed an extra level of creativity, challenge, and fun in the climbs. The variety is excellent—whether you’re a beginner just starting out or an experienced climber looking for a serious challenge, there’s always something to push you and help you grow.
I’ve brought dozens of friends and family members through my guest pass, and the experience has been so positive that many of them have become repeat visitors and even signed up for memberships themselves. It’s a place that offers so much more than just climbing—it’s fun, fitness, friendship, and community all in one.
Overall, ROKC Olathe is a fantastic gym that I’ll continue coming to for many years to come. If you’re looking for a place to challenge yourself, stay active, and be part of a supportive climbing...
