Gurlie Locks — Local services in Old Bridge Township

A pleasant surprise: I am not a girlie-girl so I cringed a little when my daughter received an invite to a 6 year-old's Gurlie Locks birthday. It did include hair style with color spray, nail polish and eye shadow and juice as "tea". There was the standard pizza, chips, cake. That was where the commonality of my preconception and the reality ended. It was well moderated, fun chaos, the hosts and owner set an environment where everyone was very much a part of the whole. It was more inclusive and team building that many other theme parties I've witnessed... I have no idea how it happened yet I'll bet it had to do with skill and nature of the hosts and staff. There was team karaoke, dancing, and multiple rooms for the girls (and siblings) to romp and lounge. Bonus is that the space is exclusively for the party and they are comfortable if you want to step over to the shopping in the plaza. Thanks...

The first time I tried to book an appointment here my appointment was cancelled because the owner had an emergency. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and attempted to book another appointment recently. When I showed up at 3:20 for a 3:30 appt, no one was there, door locked. I attempted to call them twice and no one answered. When the owner finally answered my message on Facebook she claimed the stylist was in the bathroom, then she changed the story to say that the stylist didn’t show up until 3:30. If my appointment is at 3:30 I always get there a few minutes early as a common courtesy. The owner told me it was my fault that I got there early. I will not recommend this salon to any...

Eileen hosted the most beautiful birthday party for both my daughters. We had an amazing time at Gurlie Locks! My oldest daughter had her friends on one side of the salon and did the “big girl” spa treatment (facials, hair color, makeup, nails, glitter tattoos) and a dance party .. and my little one had her party in another room - a cute tea party with their baby dolls, a dance party hair color, makeup, nail polish and tattoos. It was all I could have asked for and more. I highly recommend you book your kids party with Gurlie Locks. All the moms said it was the cutest place and the kids all had a blast...
