I would like to share a contrasting experience I had at Charlene's hair braiding shop. While the decor and cleanliness were commendable, my overall experience was far from positive. Despite the friendly atmosphere and aesthetic appeal, I felt pressured to provide a positive review, even though the service I received was subpar.
From the moment I walked in, I sensed discrimination, which greatly contradicted my expectation of finding a space that celebrates natural beauty. I take pride in my natural hair, and the anticipation of a supportive environment was shattered. Despite the initial promise of accommodating walk-ins and the convenience of providing a picture of my desired style beforehand, my experience quickly soured.
Although my communication over text was satisfactory, upon arrival, I felt instantly ignored due to the condition of my hair, which was semi-stretched and slightly damp. Despite the assurance that such issues would not be a problem, the staff delayed attending to my hair until they believed I might leave. The apprentice, not Charlene, began the process, hastily tearing through my hair until directed otherwise.
The requested Fulani braids, a style typically completed in under three hours, extended to an excruciating eight hours. Throughout the lengthy ordeal, I received no refreshments and tipped generously. The lack of guidance resulted in the braids becoming excessively heavy, leading to one falling out within five daysâa first-time occurrence for me in 17 years of professional braiding.
I even disclosed my previous hair journey, including shaving it in January 2020, expecting a level of understanding and expertise. Disappointingly, when I reached out to Charlene to rectify the situation, I was left on read. The three-day policy for resolving issues seemed impractical, given that braids take at least that long to loosen. Despite Charlene's skill in recreating the design, the overall experience was marred by poor customer service, the hiring of inexperienced friends, and evident hair discrimination. Regrettably, this experience ensures that I will not be returning...
Read moreBaby let me tell you. Ive been transitioning after doing the big chop with shaved sides. I started wearing wigs for the first time and hated it . I searched high and low for a clean professional braider that can slay. Honey i never had feed in braids ,( yes itâs been years since Ive worn braids because it irritates my psoriasis. ) I went with scalp braids and Charlene delivered. I booked with her and was upfront Ive experienced unprofessional behaviors from stylists thinking its ok to schedule an appointment and have me wait 1 hr or more while someone else is in their chair, she was prompt her staff was welcoming when I arrived and so gentle . After braiding my hair Charlene meticulously went over each individual braid and cleaned up any hairs or frizz . My husband and both my boys were so impressed with how clean my braids looked and kept complimenting me all day â¤ď¸ the fact i didnât have a scalp flare up which usually occurs a few hours after install was a plus . I must say I give alot of that credit to the itch free kanakelon braid hair I got from Amazon. All in all I will be back to Charlene again and again. Her charge was so much more reasonable than some of the other shops and home stylists I called that wanted me to pay $100 for some scalp braids smh. Dont hesitate sheâll...
Read moreCharlene has done my daughterâs hair a few times love her work and she appears to be nice thatâs why I we go back. On our last visit we experienced a lack of professionalism. We arrived at our scheduled time only to have my daughter sit idle in a chair for an hour while they worked on other clients. Then proceeded to help with the other client until I had to ask was she going to start my daughterâs hair. I would have been fine with a notification saying we need to push your time back. I would recommend her to others because her work is excellent with the warning of the wait time. Not only was there a long wait ( which had it been me in the chair I would have left) I wasnât offered a discount on the service for the wait. So if you value your time proceed...
