Decent place in some ways. They are a skating rink and so they do have a decent skating floor. They also have industrial sized a/c and regular “on-floor” events, contests and visits from the “Party Panda” (kid that’s usually too small for the costume so the panda looks like a post bariatric surgery patient but nonetheless something as opposed to nothing. The problem comes in to play for the parents. It’s very likely that you will go to the skate rental counter and wait for 10, 15 or 20 minutes for someone to swing by and actually give you the case that you pay money for. Secondarily, the snack bars, even worse. You might stand up there for the same period of time or longer until someone strolls by and decides to try to help you and tell you that most of the things that require any effort are not available. It would seem that a business that only charges so much for admission would want to have their opportunities to make additional money open available especially considering those are the amenities that adults need while they watch and enjoy their children enjoy skating but that’s not the case. Good luck getting your rented skates and good luck getting something to eat behind the counter despite the fact that there seems to be plenty of high school kids employed here. I would legitimately give a five star review if I could walk up to the skate counter with the receipt that I just got from the clerk upfront and get the skates that I paid for and I could walk up to the concession counter and actually get something to eat or drink without having to wait for exorbitant period of time, but that’s not the case. It’s not hard to fix these things. Astros skate just needs to actually manage the business as opposed to just letting it...
Read moreIf you are going just to skate, or for a birthday party, then this place is fun. If you are considering it for afterschool care, or their summer day camp, forget it. My kids went 3 times. All 3 times, they had problems with bullies. The woman in charge (Cheryl) said that there were 7 adults there and 61 kids. I definitely saw the 60+ kids, but I could only find 3 teenagers (2 of which didn't even look old enough to drive) and herself. None of those appeared to actually be watching the kids. Two of them were working/standing playing with their phones, in the "Herbalife" store attached to the rink by a door through the skate shop area and couldn't have seen the kids if they tried. The kids were all just out on the skate floor playing. I have no problem with free play, but with a group that size, you need more supervision. You know, so that your kid doesn't get closed up in a supply closet, and then pushed across the floor when he finally kicks his way out. My kid is an 83 lb 9 year old who is not afraid of anyone. He got shoved across the floor because he stood up to a much bigger 11 year old who had a small girl in a headlock and refuse to let her go. When I confronted Ms. Cheryl about the lack of adult supervision her response was to defend the fact that she supposedly has the required amount of adults in the building, and that she isn't watching them because I was taking up her time at the moment by having a conversation about this issue. She also implied that she doesn't trust my son's story simply because she has known the other kids longer and they denied any wrong doing. My kids and I will...
Read moreRecently decided to get back into my fav hobby as a kid, was looking forward to great night out with the wife. Got there lil early for the 530 to 8 session. Admission was fairly priced. Cashier was friendly but once we got in an skates laced up. First thing I noticed was a bank of lockers but none for customers was told they were not open for use. There was no "dj" looked as if the girl running the cash register was also in charge of music, which was basically a you tube mash up of mainly mumble rap, the snack bar was basically out of anything we selected off menu, the " large" fountain drink i 4.00 for was far from large medium at best. Had a flat after taste like the co2 was out. Looked past all that an hit the skate floor which is where it's clear the skate floor has not been resurfaced in a long time, large strips/patches of the paint used to finish the floor missing /peeling all over, and lots of spots where noticeable divets, chunks of floor missing. Making it farthest from a smooth ride. Icing on the cake was when a parent walked right on to floor as we came around a turn to retrieve their child almost causing my wife to crash into me in front of the "floor guard " who basically shrugged his shoulders choosing not to remind them to not walk on to floor like they did. We chose to...
