This place is a staple. Quaint, great prices, reliable, DELICIOUS, consistent.. my father would bring me here after school 25 years ago to get his beloved french baguette (he compared it to some of the best in France and NY!) and I'd always get the little chocolate man sandwich cookie 😻 they have THE best tarts (raspberry is my favorite), little cookies, rainbow cookies and apricot/raspberry filled ones, butter cookies, croissants. Just high quality taste and value. To compare, I recently tried the "French bakery" in New Smyrna and was so disappointed... Places like that are what can only be described as Americanized versions of what a true, classic French bakery should be (this one). There is no need for giant, sugary, somewhat bland but HUGE and SWEET pastries and items. It's all about the ingredient quality and care that goes into these enjoyable treats. Ormond's French bakery knows this and honors it - without feeling any need to compete with the "bigger is better" style of most other bakeries you'll find.. and that I can only describe as Americanized dessert shops. This place has integrity and is the real deal. Not to mention, 35+ years in business!! Highly...
Read moreIt saddens me to leave this review as I've been coming to the bakery for years and the food is exceptional. I called and placed an order on March 29th for pickup on April 3rd. I called again on March 30th to add another half dozen croissants to my order. The girl I spoke to on March 30th said they didn't have my order. I gave her my full order again. When I went to pickup on April 3rd they only had half of my order ready. The girl said she couldn't fill the order as they didn't have any more made that day. I asked to speak to the manager. The girl came back and said he can't he's busy. Another customer in the store at the time even commented that wasn't right. The lack of customer service is disheartening. No apology, nothing. He couldn't even be bothered to come speak to me. They need a better procedure in place for orders, not just notes scribbled on a legal pad. Calling the day before to be sure the order is correct would also eliminate errors. After the way I was treated by management, I doubt I'll ever return. That was the thanks I received after supporting them and recommending...
Read moreI’m amazed that anyone rates this treasure at anything other than 5. I’m a former French teacher with 12 trips to France (including 2 summers en famille studying, 8 trips taking students, and then traveling for pleasure but always learning) so I know France well and this is a little piece of FRANCE. Take advantage of this gem to enjoy the real thing. The croissants (get there early as they sell out every day!) and tartes are truly out of this world and the baguettes are the real deal unlike what is sold in American grocery stores as French bread. I love to make sandwiches au jambon, fromage, et beurre. Slice the bread longways and slather on good butter, add excellent slices of baked ham and guyère cheese. Close your eyes as you take a bite and voilà you are suddenly in France! No jet lag! We come to Ormond Beach for 2 weeks every summer and we go to La Gourmandise nearly every day to purchase its creations. It’s one of the high points of our vacation. I urge you to...
