Studio A sits - literally - in the backyard of Aveda founder, Horst Rechelbacher.
Osceola, Wisconsin, was host to Rechelbacher (1941-2014) and his mad scientist lab of herbology alchemy. If you listen closely whilst walking by the Pentelic marble lioness that guards the estate entryway, you can hear the yapping ghosts of his omnipresent dachshund muses.
Studio A Salon has its own lioness. Praetorian guard, Ashley Rutledge, is a chocolate haired wonder, keeper of secrets and order. She is charged with profiling prospective clients to assess their worthiness for the wonders that lie within, books your appointment, then reminds you of your appointment (and worthiness) via text one day prior to your day of beautification and ascendancy with the stylist of your choosing. (Unless that stylist is Lora Grabowsky. She's far too busy working to keep me ageless and insightful to take on new charges.)
Trish Thompson is proprietress and keeper of the eternal Rechelbacher flame, ensuring it burns as bright as Salon A's ninja manicurist, Si's smile.
Kristen Aarnio wears multiple hats, but is best known as masseuse extraordinaire. Kristen's Massage of 1000 Dragons is an experience found only in Osceola, WI, and Reykjavik, Iceland.
Lisa Mangelson is a Punk Nouveau aesthetician renowned near and far for her facials. When the humid Osceola summers left Horst's dachshunds wrinkly, Lisa was sent in to restore their coats to flawless, baby bottom smoothness.
If Lisa can revitalize a dachshund, imagine her transformative prowess with a distressed Twin Cities doyenne (not to be confused with a Stepford wife, who would most certainly be found unworthy by lioness Ashley, and unceremoniously sent down the street to Supercuts.)
There are others in the Studio A coterie of fabulosity, but I will allow you the pleasure of discovery. Should you be...
Read moreDO NOT GET YOUR MAKEUP DONE HERE!!!! I booked an appointment for 12:45 on a Saturday weeks in advance and they didn’t get to me until 30 minutes later at 1:15, and I was already on a tight schedule because of a wedding to attend in the area. Once Cally finally took me, she moved quickly and aggressively. She used eyeshadow as eyeliner. The lashes she used would not stay on, and when they did the glue was black and chunky around my eye and you could definitely see it. She really caked on the makeup, and when I was done it looked nothing like the picture I asked her to do. She also asked to tweeze my eyebrows to “make more space” during the makeup application making my eyebrows look way shorter and awful. I have medium brown eyebrows and blonde hair and she used super dark brown for my eyebrows, almost black. I went home and changed everything as best as I could, but ran out of time since my appointment was delayed half an hour. Awful experience....
