I have had a terrible experience with Jewelry by Andrew and will never return. I have an allergy to metals that causes intense itching and rash, so this greatly limits me. After talking with the owners, I decided on a $200 pair of Eleganza sterling silver earrings that were just beautiful. Initially, they encouraged me to try rhodium plating (a $20.00 charge) over the wires due to my allergy that only allows platinum. They explained that rhodium was similar to platinum and should not cause me any allergic reaction. Unfortunately, I immediately had burning followed by rash and itching on my earlobe after trying them 3 separate days.
So I took them back to have the rhodium plated wires replaced with platinum posts and a small jump ring. I was so excited to pick the earrings up and begin wearing them. They charged $108.85. I was really hopeful that this would work, so I left them another pair of sterling silver earrings to replace the sterling silver wire with a platinum post just as they did on the first pair. By the second day of wearing the first pair of earrings (with platinum posts), I was burning and itching due to silver from the earring, sadly, was still touching my earlobe and I suspect handling the silver earring while touching the post to insert into my earlobe still wasnât protection enough. In addition, the earring back was quite difficult to insert to the post because there was barely anything to hold on to that allowed you to easily push the back into the post. (I have included a picture of the post that went into my ear and the little circle is all I had to hold onto and push as I attached the back. It was very awkward).
I called them to put a hold on the second pair of earrings because I was having trouble with the first pair. The work had already been done, though.
Basically, I have spent $437.85 and have no earrings that I can wear. I understood they would not honor any refunds but would offer store credit. The ownerâs wife explained that they had no use for the platinum posts or jump rings, so they would not refund or offer credit for this. I had no problem paying for the labor and time but she ONLY would give me credit for $80.15.
To have spent that much money and have no earrings is so very disappointing! The manner in which the co-owner/wife was immediately in defensive mode when I returned the earrings was inexcusable. At no point did she try to offer suggestions or appease me in any way. When I returned to the store that day, I had high hopes of receiving a $200 store credit. My intentions were to talk with them about creating a custom pair of earrings with a budget of $2500.00. I will gladly take my business...
Read moreJewelry by Andrew is the best! My wife has had family jewelry heirlooms reset by Andrew on many occasions, and his expertise and work are nothing less than brilliant. He truly gave 'new life' to the many pieces of jewelry that my wife has brought to him at his old store location, and now at his new store location. I recently had to have my wedding band resized to a smaller size. I knew this would have to entail cutting through the ring, and I was hesitant to have this done. However, his wonderful, friendly, and intelligent wife working in the store with him took the measurements for resizing. She explained to me everything in detail. She stated that Andrew would have to cut through the band, resolder the band, replate with gold, and then hand detail the fine engravings that ran along each side of the band. To me, this sounded impossible, but to a highly-trained gemologist and jeweler like Andrew, this was a basic ring repair. When I picked up my ring, it not only was the correct size, but it shined brilliantly, so it not only had been repaired with no discernible trace of where Andrew had made his cut, but my ring was cleaned and polished.
I think people would benefit tremendously by bringing their jewelry repairs to Andrew, as well as purchasing his exceptionally fine display of precious stones, gems, and diamond jewelry. For those wondering about his qualifications as a jeweler and gemologist, I invite you to step into his store and view his many degrees, diplomas, and certifications from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) that are displayed on the wall. I spotted about 6 on the wall.
In summary, this is a family-run small business that my wife and I have been using for approximately 20 years. We would not trust our valuable heirloom jewelry, as well as jewelry that we have purchased through the years, to anyone but Andrew and his wife. They are extremely friendly, honest, reasonably priced, and conveniently located on Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park, KS. I highly recommend Jewelry by Andrew with my highest enthusiasm and absolutely no reservations about their jewelry, their customer interactions, and their honesty...

They are honest, the service's offered are affordable and fairly priced, with their quality of work top notch. They are friendly too. If they don't have what you need, they will make it, or find it. From small chains to gemstones, they have it all covered, and I have price shopped to confidently know they charge competitive prices. I love how fast and affordable they are at jewlery repairs, even offering laser. They also work on watches.
An example of an experience for me with them: I paid $200 for a stone and mounting at another local jeweler who was recommended to me, yet, Bozena later filled me in that they would have charged ~$50 for the same service....
I have been a loyal client of Jewelry by Andrew for almost 5 years (since I moved here), and would never consider using anyone else. The #1 reason I am so loyal to Andrew and Bozena is their honesty - a wonderful asset they have when working with jewelry, in addition to being excellent...
