Last trip to fortune wok after a truly disappointing experience overall. Beware - you may not get what you ordered and you may likely be overcharged for your food! At least that was what happened to us. We paid $55 plus tip for two entrees and a salad.
We went in person and ordered to go due to the massive storms rolling in. I ordered at the counter, paid, and sat down. I thought the bill was higher than expected and looked up our order online. I wanted Thai basil chicken fried rice and asked about the spicy level to the two ladies behind the counter. After looking up prices online I was overcharged by $4 and was curious why this happened. I went up to the counter and spoke to the SAME person I ordered from. I showed her my online cart so she could read what I ordered and asked why it was higher. She said she would look into it. I never heard from her again.
Fast forward to getting my food. I got to the car and looked at the items and realized that I did not get Thai basil chicken fried rice. So I called back and asked what I got (you know, food allergies and all) and found out the person at the counter had ordered Thai jalapeño chicken and then charged me extra for the fried rice (because the meal is not called fried rice - unlike what I ordered). Now we know why it was $4 more. The thing is - she could have corrected my order at the very minimum once she saw what I wanted in our online cart. These things are NOT the same and I do not like jalapeños unfortunately.
Was offered to come back and get a replacement meal - that’s not the point of ordering to go (and being almost home), or attempting to correct it in the restaurant (which she cowardly avoided), and nor do I want to return when you overcharged me too! Got home to find that we had paid the $4 extra charge for fried rice for both of our meals apparently (so $8 total) and one was steamed rice. So we got the wrong meal, were overcharged for it, and then didn’t even get the rice we ordered and paid for. Called back. Was told I would get a meal refunded to my card. Hasn’t happened. Won’t be returning. So disappointed overall and gave them multiple chances to address the issue. The person taking the order needs to be moved to a different part of the restaurant or retrained. That I showed her my order and she still didn’t fix it or acknowledge the error is a real problem. How it wasn’t handled lost...
Read moreDidn't even go as far as trying the food! Called to order carryout and sat on hold for 6 min. I then arrived, while still on hold, to find 6 employees behind the counter, one helping a customer and 5 laughing and talking. I was then approached by a 7th employee who asked how she could help me. Understandably frustrated, I pointed out that I had been on hold with all these employees not doing anything. I asked to talk to the manager to which she replied "he is not here tonight!" I told her I didn't need to talk to the main manager, just the person in charge for the night and she replied by telling me there is no one in charge. I asked her who would handle any problem that came up and she replied that they each just handle their own problems! This is not the type of service that prompts me to spend money with a business and as such I handed her the menu and told her I would take my business elsewhere... Thankfully Andy's Wok is located a mere 1 minute away and had great service, great food, and excellent pricing... Only go to fortune wok if customer service is not...
Read moreI have been a fan of Fortune Wok for nearly 20 years. We used to go to the store off of Nieman for the lunch special. The Mongolian beef is exceptional. It was well priced for our bank account. My wife ordered take out so many times that the owner recognized us.
Since opening the store on Metcalf the prices have steadily climbed. My gut tells me that the increases are pretty normal. But, we did have to decrease our frequency.
They were one of the first restaurants that transitioned to curbside during the early days of covid. This renewed our interest. I now have a new favorite. The wok roasted chicken is delightful.
We have learned that our family of four (all over 18) doesn't need four meals. The portions are huge. In southern OP the quality and quantity make Fortune Wok one of the top Asian restaurants for my family.
Other favorites of our family include the chicken fried rice and the teriyaki chicken.
Though the staff has always been friendly, the only thing missing is the owner...
