I like this place. The owner of the shop is nice. If you want to get some nice hilsa, rohu, katla fish in St. Louis, then this would be your place. They have nice traditional Bengali foods like patali gur (palm jaggery), kochur loti (taro roots), chanachur. These things I didn’t find in mid-east market or pan-asia, which are two other big meat and fish markets in St. Louis for Indians. Bengali people prefer to have fish cut in some specific style, which I can get here easily, whereas in other places. Also, sometimes, I find some interesting fishes that we used to get only in our market back in West Bengal, which is really good for me. There I can get spices and mustard oil from a Bangladeshi brand called radhuni, which is very tasty compared to other brands that we find here. About the chicken and goat meat, I am okay with them as I keep them in the -18 degree fridge for quite some time. But the chicken doesn’t release water while cooking just like the chicken from local stores,...
Read moreI would have given Zero if there was an option. I tried to buy lamb kheema (ground lamb) here and the guy (owner) took the lamb out of the freezer and weighed it which was 1.89 lbs. He wrote the weight on a paper and started grounding the lamb. At the end he asked me to pay for 1.89 lbs so I asked him to weigh it again which was 1.6 lbs then. I said I would like to pay for the end product and not the frozen meat with all the water. He said if I want I can take the water that was separated from the lamb.!!!!!!!!!!! LOL. Finally, he started shouting back saying “if you want take it, otherwise leave!” Worst place ever!
If you are looking for the best and fresh meat, I found a place called...
Read moreThis place is really hit or miss. We been shopping here for 5 years, and up until recently we had no problems.
Last year for Eid we bought some lamb that was not fresh. I returned it as nd got the equivalent cost in chicken instead but we were sad we had no lamb.
Since then, it appears the workers are not cleaning down the surfaces properly and they are not rotating the stock properly, as we h as ve had bad meat meat on several more occasions. We decided we wont get fresh meat here any more as nd instead stick to the spices and freezer items. I bought expired vanilla...it tasted like sucking on copper. Quite foul.
Really wish the owner would check people out before...
