The harvest moon it the best little drive in you'll ever go to. Everyone there is amazing from the folks getting you your tickets at the booth to the lovely folks at the snack bars.
Yep I said snack bars. As In 3. They have the main building that has your normal movie faire. Popcorn, soda, nachos, candy, hotdogs, cotton candy, ect. All of which I would recommend. They have "The Burger Barn" which has more of your actual burger joint faire. Hamburgers, fries, hotdogs, chicken and such. As well as a variety of what I refer to as carnival snacks. Things like funnel cakes and elephant ears. Then you have the tiki hut which serves up things like candy bars and sno-cones but also serves as a souvenir stand with light swords and other toys for the kids.
The drive in itself boast being the only one ran on wind power. This drive in is a little different than any other that I've been to as it has 2 screens running simultaneously to offer a greater selection of movie choices. They also tend to run double features which is a huge savings at $10 a ticket for an adult and $5 for a kid. They also have a truck bed that you can rent for $35 that has air mats and a radio to listen to the movie in. Lol. It's a cute idea.
They usually have some sort of extra family things to go with what ever movies they are playing. Like this year when they had Ghostbusters playing they had folks from the local Ghostbusters fan club come out all decked out in full gear to take pics with you and the kids. This week we went to see the minions movie and they had folks in minions costumes running around in character for photo ops. And they were also a hoot as they were playing around and "fighting" with each other as minions do, for comedic effect. In a couple of weeks they are going to be playing Twister, and the plan to have a mockup of the truck from the movie and a real life storm chaser there to answer questions and for pics. This just really ads to the movie experience. I know my kids love it and can't wait till the next movie to see what they have to go with it.
They also usually have themed snacks that go with the movies. From green slime slushies with Ghostbusters to blueberry and banana mixed slushies and chocolate covered bananas for minions, they always have something fun.
The theater itself turns 70 this year so lots of history here. They also have a 100 year old merry go round for the kids to ride before the movie starts.
They have some extra rentals and amenities that you can get there as well. The movies are broadcast on radio frequencies instead of the old speaker method of days gone past. So they rent radios pre programmed to the right station for you so you don't have to drain down your car batteries if you don't want to. They also have chair rentals if you forgot to bring your own. I think they are only like $2 for the chairs. You will need an id to leave at the concession station as collateral, so keep that in mind. If your battery does happen to run down on your car, they have attendants with jumper packs driving around to give you a boost. And if it's really dead they have a truck and jumper cables to get you going again.
The theater also has a lot of community things going a lot of the time. From Easter egg hunts, to car shows, ect they always have something going. Check out their Facebook page or their website for what they have going on.
I really can't give a positive enough review for this place. My family has been going here for 3 years now since we moved to Illinois. It just an all around bang for your buck, good time for the family experience. You can tell the folks that run and own the place really care and love movies, and are always trying to make it more of a memory for you and your kids. We love bringing our 62 Fairlane and the kids to watch a movie there. It just fits in and it's always...
Read moreA really fun and now “unique” place to enjoy an evening with family and friends. They have two screens and you can pick which movie you like. There are plenty of spots to park, but buy your tickets In advance and either reserve a space (at an extra cost) or arrive a few hours early to get a decent place to park with a good view of the screen. There is enough grass behind or in front of your spot to spread out with a blanket or camping chairs, and some people even bring small gas grills. Alcohol is not allowed, but if you are discreet and not being obnoxious, then it is tolerated. (It’s a family focused venue, so they won’t tolerate party people or anyone that is drunk)
You can bring in your own food and drink if you buy a “food pass” for $5 for your vehicle. There is a snack bar and grill onsite with plenty of food and snack options for you at reasonable prices.
You can play the audio for the movie you are watching through an FM radio. We played the audio through our car stereo, but if you want to sit away from your car or if you are concerned about running down the battery on your car, then bring an FM portable radio.
We had a super fun evening that was reminiscent of our time in high school and college when we often went to the drive in. We will definitely return here sometime and recommend...
Read moreHarvest Moon always exceeds all of our expectations and this visit did it again!Turned our movie night into an unforgettable experience for my 9-year-old daughter and myself, we couldn't have been happier with everything this amazing place had to offer this Luau weekend.
From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the charming luau theme that added a festive and fun vibe to the whole evening. The atmosphere was perfect even with how packed it was.
The selection of brand-new movies is always great, and we were thrilled to catch the latest release, "IF," which made our night even more special. It's not every day you get to watch a brand-new movie under the stars!
The prices were incredibly reasonable, making it an affordable outing for us. But what really blew us away was the food selection. There was something for everyone, and the quality was top-notch. From classic popcorn and candy to themed meals, "the luau burger" yummm every bite was delicious!
A big shoutout to the friendly staff who made our visit smooth and enjoyable. Their hospitality truly enhanced our experience and always does.
