The Mercantile — Local services in Pendleton

I was looking for a bead shop near Anderson SC so I went online to search. Based on the pictures online and their website, The Mercantile looked like the place to go. My husband and I drove there to check it out. What a disappointment! There wasn't a bead or bead supply in sight. There were a lot of things for kids, homemade soaps and some pre-made jewelry. When I asked the woman behind the counter where the beads were, she told me that they were "in boxes in the back", and that they only bring them out for classes. She also said that the beads hadn't been on the shelves for about 1 1/2 years. Really?!? I suggested that she update the website. She looked at me and scoffed "yeah, in my spare time". Wow! Lesson learned. Guess I will call the next place before I go...

What an adorable shop! There are games, puzzles, toys, books (I saw some Choose Your Own Adventures, I loved those as a child). They also have a variety of candy and a few gift items like dip mixes, greeting cards, and some jewelry). The owners are also the kindest and sweetest sisters. I ended up chatting with them for quite some time. I really enjoy these type of local main street shops and this one is a gem. It’s bright and well organized so the space is very inviting. This would be the perfect place to shop for a child of any age or to pick up something new for a family game night. Classroom teachers would also love this store! I’m so glad...

This store has been a favorite of my family’s since moving here 22 years ago! It always seemed magical to my girls when they were growing up to walk through those doors and pick out a candy stick or little treasure after school.
