Beautifully laid out bookstore hosting a forward thinking selection of charged topics, mostly biased in a predictable direction, what we expected; the main room clean and inviting for the open mind. Got myself tickled surprised stumbling upon a new comic book styled adaptation of The Hobbit, didn't purchase, now I regret. Very much there had been more celebration of literature's full magic, iconic authors, celebrated series, unique publishers, instead of just a couple main topics. Noticed the solo staff quietly holding down the side room at the back corner checkout, oddly not near the entry. The second oddity was a bewildering array of invisible god replacements: fortune telling, card reading, and general assortment of materials bent on using the star charts and crystal as religion. Always amusing to see attempts made to replace a simple prayer and book based church, that's remained unaltered for four thousand years, the endless chaos of frantic scrabbling at palm lines, tea leaves, and incense doesn't go along with the rest of the progressive socially cared for collection here. However I understand how quickly the mind starts to make up its own sense of self with the easiest options at hand not necessarily the ones that will last or...
Read moreWith a bohemian style and the warm comfort and cozy feeling one can only get from local independent bookstores, this shop is easily the best used bookstore in Peoria. Not only is the owner a warm and inviting personality, she has an extensive knowledge of all things books and poetry. A top notch inventory that includes an impressive nonfiction selection (something that can be hard to find in many used bookstores), a scifi/fantasy collection that would make any fan of the genre drool, and, my personal favorite, a literary section that can boast having plenty of both classics and modern classics. Of course we needn't forget the selections of poetry, and all the amazing titles from mystery, thriller, horror and everything in between- ALL in superb, clean condition. Also, be sure to check out, Lit. On Fire Used Books, on Facebook to find out about all the new titles that come in, and for updates on all the wonderful special events during each calendar month. Check this place out, you won't regret it, and you're sure to...
Read moreIn March I, like many others, suddenly had a lot of time to spend at home. I have always loved to read so I checked out my local bookstore to see if they had curbside. Lucky for me they did! I stocked up on so many books. Jessica was on top of it with her Google form that listed all of the current books in stock, so it was very easy to shop online. If you get a chance to go in store, it is very clean, organized, nicely lit, and you feel very welcome. Jessica is a very kind person who inspires me as a fellow business owner. She is a supporter of so many others in the community, so you can feel confident about supporting a great business, a great person, and a great shop when you come here. The selection is fantastic, and I am more times than not able to find exactly what I need. If not, I can either get it on bookshop to still support lit on fire or wait until it's...
