Giant Oak Park — Attraction in Peoria

Lol, reading some of the comments. Yes it’s a small park on a quiet street devoted entirely to honoring a truly Great burr oak tree, dated by international arborists to 1499!!!!! (thus, “not much going on” unless you have the imagination to realize how AWESOME that is, from so many perspectives).

It’s absolutely enormous —more like a grove of 20 trees all attached— but, as giant old trees do, somehow exudes gentleness and calm (as many other reviewers noticed). My 6-year old was plenty happy chatting with a local ginger cat who came out and greeted us, then retreated to its hedge at a safer distance... and then looking for interesting bugs and birds with me in the huge branches overhanging the iron fence. Nice small park around a very old tree. If you want a little piece of history about the Peoria area, definitely recommend. There is a large grassy area in front of the tree that is a good photo opportunity. There are also a few picnic tables and benches for seating. Additionally, noticed some pseudo trails going into the brush but not sure what...

A nice spot to enjoy an ancient tree that is over 500 years old. You can't access the tree directly as it's surrounded by a fence to protect it. There is a picnic table and plenty of grass to walk around it and enjoy thinking about the amount of time...
