Was in an accident as a pedestrian and had my first head injury. The emergency immediately cared for me by asking the right questions, taking ex rays, and cleaning up ans stitching up my wound as well as my other abrasions. Then they brought me up to the rooms upstairs to rest and heal. The day I was supposed to be discharged, I told them I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the hospital because I felt like I was still healing and my face had swelled up as well. I didn’t have family in the area and I needed to make calls. On the 3rd day, the case worker asked about my family and flight home, which is in another state. I told her I need more time for discharge because I didn’t have my flight. She said she’d give me transportation to the hotel where my heavy luggage was and then to the airport to return home. She didn’t tell me when I would leave or anything. The doctor didn’t once see me that day. situation, so I don’t know if I can go today. He said I probably won’t be discharged today. So I made calls to see what I can do for when I leave the hospital. Then around 6 nurse suddenly came to me and said I’m being discharged. I said this wasn’t ethically right, to be discharged without any plan and at night time. Then the other nurse came in and started demanding I leave and called security. I told them it’s not right that the whole team knows I don’t have family here, I don’t have a discharge plan yet and it’s cold out, it’s dark out (6pm) and I don’t have transportation to the hotel (which is where I got hit and there’s no cross walk). I told two of the nurses and two security guards that were all demanding me to leave: ā€œI need help and can’t just leave when I need transportation and a place to go. The hospital should not discharge anyone without a discharge plan. I have nowhere to go because I didn’t plan to leave so suddenly, the case worker didn’t come talk to me, the doctor knew my situation of not having anywhere to go, and I said it’s not legal and it’s unethical to not have a proper discharge plan for any patient. The case worker said she’d help with the ride to the hotel and airport and she didn’t. It’s late at night and cold and I have no proper discharge plan of where I can even go.ā€ The doctor and caseworker the day prior were literally saying my discharge would have to be in a shelter or on the streets. I couldn’t believe professionals would even say that. The nurse said the doctor that discharged me was Jennifer Greenwood. I don’t even know who that is. I’m a Christian and this is a Catholic hospital. I couldn’t believe the staff. I asked if I could at least stay in the waiting room downstairs because I don’t know this area because I’m from another state and they said no. The security said I’m being kicked out of the entire hospital. I said you can’t just kick me out, I have my rights as a patient and he said I can. I told him my phone was dying and I didn’t know how to get to my hotel, that’s also where I got hit and it was dark and cold out. He said I could walk! I couldn’t believe it. Officer Gregory was his name. The discharge paper work literally had nothing about wound care, check up or follow up with any recommended doctors, no medicine to the pharmacy, nothing. I took a picture of the paperwork. I’ve never in my entire life, at any hospital just discharge me without making a plan and a discharge plan. They left me feeling unprotected, unsafe, uncomfortable and in the dark.

My godson who has TBI and began having grand Mal seizures 12 years after the TBI that have required being flown to St. Frances with acute respiratory distress and intubated and also status epileptics was allowed to be discharged AMA. I am his medical POA. The records are false. It stated that he was able to say back why he was there, where he was, what the risks were.. etc, the doctor had made the decision at 11:30pm the night before that he was not able to make decisions yet miraculously only 7 hours later he was able to make decisions. I picked him up, he thought he was in Indiana, he had zero clue he had had a seizure nor could he tell me the name of his PCP or neurologist, any medications he was to take so I know for a fact he did not repeat any of this back to the doctor. I even let them know that I feared for my safety as well as his due to his combative, aggressive behaviors after having these seizures. They didn't care, they only wanted to be rid of him because he was combative as I had stated he would be. He did not know the month, day, year and told me Obama was president. Does this sound like someone who is capable of making their own decisions? The charting said he was not compliant with his medications even though I told them I watch him take them every dose. I had to tell 4 different people his Depakote was stopped by his doctor due to causing urinary retention which caused him to be catherized for 3 days until the Depakote was out of his system. Yes, I have proof of all of this. It was written that he stopped the medication on his own. His neurologist, PCP and psychiatrist all know that I absolutely take excellent care of him and if I cannot get him to take a medication, I immediately inform them of the fact. None of the test results were even explained to me, if they were to him, he didn't know. He cannot even remember if he has showered each morning and ends up taking 3 until I tell him he has showered. He forgets he is cooking food now so he can no longer cook He asks me multiple times a day how old he is, what day it is, what month it is and the geniuses at St Francis ICU determined him capable of making his own decisions. Wow!! Flat out lies in the charting which can also be proved as his PCP also could not fathom how they came to the decision he was capable. He couldn't walk without my assistance at all. Everything I told them was absolutely dismissed. He was put at the front desk to wait for me to drive to get him. No discharge instructions, no paperwork, he couldn't tell me what he was supposed to take but he supposedly repeated it back to the doctor? That is 100% false documentation. He had a fever, I wasn't told he had rhinovirus nor to take him to the ER if his temp got above 101 as it could trigger a seizure. Medical malpractice at its finest! He has huge bruises on the inner upper thigh of both legs, no clue how that happened and it wasn't in his MyChart as to how it happened either. He's been declining mentally more and more each day. Yes I called and no one would give me instructions and frankly with the attitude didn't care! His neurologist even had to call to ask them to do an addendum due to the MRI results stating in 1 place MR evidence of acute stroke, then another place stating no MR evidence of acute stroke. Absolutely horrible place, horrible doctors and horrible nurses who didn't care if he lived or died, his PCP saw he couldn't tell her anything about his medications, where he had been, the severity of his condition. He was starving, told me he was not given anything to eat while he was there. He was spitting up 2 16 ounce bottles of yellow phlegm since he's been home. God is not in this hellhole!! All who provided "care" to him should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and have their license stripped and go through med school another 10 years.Oh, chart states call button within reach, well when someone is intubated and sedated and not awake, wth good is a call light, I could go on and on but it doesn't let me. Complaints will be made and...

My son is at the hospital now recovering from a botched appendectomy. Last Tuesday, I took my son into the emergency room with lower side pain. After triaging him, we sat in the waiting room for 3 hours. When they finally took him back, they did a CT scan and came back to say he needed his appendix out. This is where is all goes down hill. Wednesday morning the surgery was performed. His surgeon DID NOT follow up with my daughter in law but left that to the nurse who said, the surgery went great, the number is on the back of the discharge papers if you have problems and call to schedule an appointment in two weeks. He was then rushed out of recovery to go home. He said his nurse kept hitting him in the leg to wake him up bc he was going home. What was NEVER DISCLOSED to them was his appendix had partial ruptured before surgery and they had to flush his abdomen 3 times before closing him up. So the chance of infect was extremely high. And that is what happened. He went home right after the surgery Wednesday afternoon and by Thursday morning he was in excruciating pain, running a fever and vomiting. My daughter in law called the emergency number on the sheet multiple times but no one answered the phone. They ended up going back to the emergency room. My daughter in law wheeled my son in in a wheelchair from the car but at the check in desk she was told he had to get out of it bc they weren’t allowed to use it. My son could hardly walk! They sat in the ER for 2 hours until they were seen and then were left in the ER room for 36 HOURS BEFORE ANY DECISION WAS MADE REGARDING HIS CARE. 36 HOURS!!!! We were told by the ER nurse it was bc the surgeons knew they had screwed up and were trying to decide what to do. During that time he was still vomiting. He was given pain meds and an NG tube was place in. FINALLY, it was decided to do an exploratory surgery to see what was wrong (38 hours after coming to the ER, REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!) he was told he could lose part of his bowel, or a possible temporary colostomy bag or maybe just clean out any infection. It turned out His abdomen was full of infection and blood and his intestines and bowel were swollen which resulted in an Ilias of the bowel (temporary bowel paralysis) Because of this he has the NG tube pumping out stomach fluid out his nose from his stomach and a drain in his side draining infection. We have no idea when he will be coming home. The communication at this hospital is EXTREMELY POOR. No one knows anything. They have NEVER see a doctor, they just send around residents that know absolutely nothing about your case and as a result can answer none of your questions. Maybe that’s the idea. My sons room has never been cleaned, his bed has not been changed, he is still wearing the same gown he can back from surgery in, he has not been asked if he wants to get cleaned up, he has never been asked if he wants to get up and walk. My daughter in law has to keep track of his med times HERSELF bc the nurses don’t bring it if they do not ask for it even though he is required to have it every 4 hours. Finally, he had a male night nurse when he came back from his second surgery. That nurse was abusive. There were a couple of things he did to my son the were painful and abrasive and that he made jokes about while he was doing them. He also joked about giving my son his part of the IV pain medication in the bottle and not using it all but keeping the rest for himself. Something you might want to check in to. He was reported to a patient advocate who told my son that that nurse is currently on supervision for so many complaints. Most of the other nurses have been kind and are very open to share how downhill OSF has gone and that it is all about money and no longer patient care. We are shocked at how extremely unhappy everyone is. There are A LOT more stories to tell but let’s just say our family from now on is going to use a safer hospital that isn’t OSF.

LASTLY, my son and daughter in law have contacted a lawyer and are getting...
