I my opinion. Big 5 Sporting Goods rates somewhere around 3 out of 5 Stars or a Grade of C+. These are reasons why I shop at Big 5 periodically. 1) They are the nearest Chain Sporting Goods store by about 5 miles. 2) Their location provides quick & easy access to the Highway. 3) I am doing other shopping at stores close to Big 5. So there is certainly a logistics and convenience factor for me. 4) They support a somewhat diverse array of sports. So there is a decent chance of them having something Im intending to purchase. 5) They do sell some fire arms and permits. Not a big selection. 6) They also sell a variety of blades and axes for hunting and camping. Again, pretty average equipment. For my Sporting Goods Store preference. I definitely prefer a couple local Sporting Goods Stores over Big 5. They are a little bit smaller privately owned shops. They are perhaps smaller but are also more specialized. They carry higher quality products. For me, the greatest plus about these stores. Is that the owners are there regularly. They are so knowledgeable about every product In their store. They are well versed about all sports and sports activities in their community. Same goes for their employees. They themselves are sports enthusiasts themselves. They truly care about their customers and their communities. You get to know them well and they get to know you. They may be smaller but in many more ways. They offer the customer far more than Big 5 Sporting Goods ever could. Now if you are looking for large variety and more options. If you perhaps have some basic questions that you need to ask. If you do some or all of your sporting goods shopping on line. The larger Sporting Goods Chain Stores will be of much greater service to your needs than Big 5 as well. I hope that helps...
Read moreI am so totally disappointed in Big 5 as a company. It has gone downhill so much in the last 10 years it is barely recognizable. Big 5 used to be one of my go-to's for any outdoor sporting goods that were needed. Now I must say I would rather go just about anywhere else, even Amazon. Today was the last straw. Not only did the place seem completely run down and disorganized. The customer service people were obviously over stretched and underpaid. There was a very cheap pair of long johns at the price of about $17.99 that had been opened and were partially ripped at the top. Thanks to the pandemic I've been a bit strapped for cash so I requested a possible discount but the only discount the manager felt empowered to Grant was 10%. Otherwise they would be defected. Instead of a more reasonable discount like 30 or 40% for something like a rip Big 5 would rather throw away profits entirely. Obviously put so much pressure on their managers that they do not feel safe enough to do business with reasonable patrons such as myself. Big 5 has gone the way of corporate greed, and has resorted to nickeling and diming working class people such as myself. The discount would have been maybe a handful of dollars at the most, and instead of accommodating making a meaningful connection with the local they would rather lose a patron. I'm just so disappointed. No wonder they seem to be disappearing everywhere. This is a direct reflection of the way they...
Read moreHorrible experience shopping at this big 5 in Pismo Beach. I do not go shopping much at all. I'm usually at work 6 days a week however, today I needed to go buy a fathers day gift and I wanted to purchase a pocket knife. I was greeted at the door with a lady in my face stating that I could'nt proceed into the store unless I had a face mask. I advised her that I have asthma and I cannot wear a face mask. She told me well in that case you cannot shop here and I would have to go online to purchase my product. Another worker bombarded me with the same story and told me that i could not stand in the lobby without a mask. I was not aware of this new policy and I needed to purchase an item for Father's Day the next day. I went outside and got my vented work vest out of my car and Loosely tied it around my face so that I could breathe. Walked backed into the store bought my overpriced pocket knives and left. Workers were rude and I felt discriminated against. I guess they felt safe when i came back in with my dirty vest with holes all over it covering my face so they let me shop. Meanwhile i sat there and watched one worker talking to a coworker for 3 minutes with no face mask at all. I only purchased my item there today because i fealt like I had to get it in time for fathers day. I will never be back to this Big 5 or any other big 5. I will never spend another dollar here and I will let other people know...
