I've known and shopped at this store since it operated in the ex-KMart shopping center off Maple Road. Sadly, both the customer service and the selection have gone progressively south over the years.
The original owners/family are from Taiwan- they are kind, helpful & respectable. Now it would the seem the batten have been passed to some folks from Thailand, with a handful of employees from south america. Nothing wrong with where they are from, except, the cashiers never look at the customers in the eyes, never say a word of greeting, not even a "thank you, have a nice day" at the end of any transaction. A few times I've approached the employees in the back, asking if the bagged vegetable can be separated/sold in smaller proportions, they flat out said "no"- no explanation, no justification. Rude and Unhelpful!
The shelves are slowly emptied out of traditional favorites from Taiwan and from Japan- instead they are taken over by stuff from mainland china and Thailand- the latter is such an oxymoron because there aren't that many Thai in this area to consume all these goods- no wonder the expired shelve in the back of the store is always overflowing. Price of staples such as tofu, veggies are not competitive versus Meijer/Busch's.
Yesterday half of the fridges along the wall were empty and there was a giant section of the floor tile missing in the store. Again, no apologies or explanation was given.
One wonders why such a store bothers to...

Medium sized selection of refrigerated items and produce. This is a particularly good store for Japanese products and larger than most Asian grocery stores in Michigan, being about twice or three times the size of most strip mall shops. It is not as large as a typical supermarket, being about 1/4 to 1/3 the size of a typical large supermarket. They have a wall of ramen and a wide selection of rice, as you'd expect from an Asian...
Read moreI come here for the Asian veggies. It is hit or miss. Sometimes their freezer food is freezer burn so you never know if you are going to get what you want or something melted and deformed. They try to keep it clean but it looks pretty typical of a Chinese store, worn and a bit chaotic. It is still a cut above many other Chinese stores that are filthy and stink. This one is swept clean and doesn't have rotten food stinking up the store. They are fast with checking out. They also tend to sell expired food frequently so if you are obsessed with not expired food, check the dates carefully. And no, they don't discount...
