These people know little about hygiene: the waitresses use gloves, but they touch everything and anything with those same gloves. They never change them: for instance, they clean another client’s dirty tables, and with those same gloves, they bring you your soup bowl, and they don’t hold the bowl from the outside, no, they put their thumb on the inside of your bowl. My soup smelled and tasted like clorox. And who knows if other client’s crumbs got in my soup. Also, I paid $29 for cheap colorless salmon This $29 salmon is supposedly fresh & wild caught in Europe. But that doesn’t seem to be true because it’s pale (see pic, it looks pale pink or even cream colored). I lived in Europe, and I know what wild & fresh caught European salmon looks like: it’s got an orangey color to it. Don’t waste your money, you get better tasting and less expensive salmon at Red Lobster. Though I went to Godaiko a few months ago, I'm only posting now due to lack of time. But I knew I'd get around to it because it was such a bad experience, I figured I'd find time to spare others from wasting their time, money and enthusiasm. With this price, go to the Chop House in downtown and get really good fish. And they won"t get clorox in your soup there.

May 2023 Godaiko still offering 2 for 1 special on all their sushi rolls, which started during Covid in 2020. Enjoyed a few rolls tonight ~ eel asparagus, spicy salmon, and spicy tuna with cucumber 2022 Lunch or dinner...food is excellent! Customer service always attentive and friendly. This time for lunch instead of sushi, I ordered Pork Katsu Curry and Pork Katsu Bowl to compare the two, which both come with miso soup and salad. We had shrimp and vegetable tempura as appetizer. LOVED the pork katsu curry rice!!! The flavors are sooo good. You don't even need the meat! There is a version that is just the curry with rice. As for the pork katsu bowl, this was good, but not as good as the curry one in my opinion. My friend enjoyed it. The sauce is a bit sweet for me. It comes with a few varieties of pickled vegetables for accent to the pork and drizzled egg in the bowl. Both orders were generous in portions for lunch and enough to share. Will be back to try a few other lunch menu items next time!

Growing up around the corner, I used to come here all time. Their sashimi is absolutely amazing and completely worth it. Highly recommend the chirashi bowl, its big enough to feed two and its piled high with fresh cuts of assorted fish. The main reason for the lower rating is the service!! It is pretty terrible. I think that's why most people do not eat in the restaurant but get take out (including myself). The waitresses are not friendly, they always have an attitude and sport a frown. There is a younger man that works in the front as host and he literally spent the whole time crouched behind the counter watching videos on his phone. He should be let go. He did not greet us at all (or even acknowledge us), did not give us menus, basically was glued to his phone. Although the sushi is on the expensive, the quality is worth it. However they also charge a lot more for the smaller appetizers which is not worth it. Would recommend this restaurant for the sashimi/ specialty rolls only!

Huge massive portions, because if you can't make the food well, fake it and pile it on because the silly Americans will think it's awesome. This was by far the most terrible interpretation of typical Japanese diner fare I have ever seen. Admittedly I am spoiled, because I live near three very authentic Japanese restaurants in my hometown. We took 90% of our food out in doggie bags, because we didn't feel like arguing with how bad the food was, it was thrown out. I get that you are not going to get a truly "authentic Japanese" meal in America, and I am good with that. Broccoli and mushrooms, instead of the traditional cabbage, tomato slice and Japanese potato salad, with Tonkatsu is a bold move and falls into that "fusion" category, if you can pull off the Tonkatsu. Unfortunately Godaiko did not pull off anything but making us waste time and money. I had ordered Ramen, it was the entire reason we went there after reading the reviews. The Ramen was cold, had a way undercooked entire boiled egg (???), which everyone knows should have been cut in half. The noodles were angle hair, and while there was a massive amount one bite and I was done. I didn't know whether to laugh or call for the manager and waste more time. We also ordered a simple California roll, which was also terrible, besides falling apart, whatever the "crab paste" was had turned. The sushi literally tasted like a dirty gold fish tank. Ramen, Tonkatsu and a Sushi roll with tip, $70. Never having to go back into that...

January 23, 2019 Two Stars We came for dinner. It took quite a bit of time to be seated (no one was at the host area for 10-15 minutes when tables were ready and the two host/servers were in the back, and neither bar server greeted us to assure us someone would be with us). When we ordered, I asked to double check that I understood the buy one get one free special because the menu is confusing, and I got an exasperated sigh and then a yes. The food took a long time to come out, and it didn't really taste great. I've been here a few times for the lunch deal, which is a lot more reasonable in price, but the quality still wavers. Both the higher-than-average price and the lower-than-average quality drastically reduced overall value, and the service was pretty sub-par; however, we tipped on the original price as usual (rather than the BOGO price) because we understand more effort goes into serving more food and to encourage the server not to drop service just because they suspect their overall bill will be lower (which really needs to be recognized as a consequence of the establishment's promotion instead of taken as a customer's wrongdoing). I've been pretty disappointed with the value and service here after giving it multiple chances, that I don't think I will be back for a while....

I really hate having to do this. I normally love Godaiko in Ann Arbor and recommend it all the time. Our waitress was very sweet. But the experience I had yesterday leaves me questioning if I'll be back. I ordered California rolls (BOGO), which I usually love. When asked, they would not do one with cucumber and one with avocado; doesn't seem too out of reach, but the answer was no. Okay, that's fine. I was okay with it, understood, and ordered. When our food came, the waitress set my sushi plate to my left. It was not amazing but good. When I was putting my food in a box to go, I noticed a hair over a few pieces of sushi on the plate. When the waitress came to give us our check, my husband told her we had a concern, that there was a hair on my sushi. She looked perplexed and then took my plate to the back kitchen. She comes back out with my plate telling me none of the cooks in the back have dark hair. She then placed the hair on the table and said it was mine, that is was red, not black like hers. My hair is not red and all pulled up in a ponytail/clip. I also was never over the sushi plate. I was not battling it any further and am so disappointed on how it was handled. My favorite sushi place in AA that I've been going to for years, but I'm not sure I'll be back. #Bummed...
