I have shopped at this Meijers location for years & shop here very frequently I always try to use self checkout and don’t ask for help unless absolutely necessary but more often than not some malfunction occurs There is one particular woman who works the checkout nearest the pharmacy She not only gabs nonstop at the top of her lungs to coworkers & friends buying groceries but is seemingly oblivious of customers needing help while she is doing so I don’t know her name but she’s an older woman with long black hair & black glasses who also wears all black A few days prior to this visit I had to actually go across from checkout to the hair salon to get help from her as she pressed herself against the glass facing worker inside On this visit I was using 3 coupons that were sent to me in the mail When I scanned the first one it said assistance needed True to form, she was yammering to another employee with her back to me I had to get that employees attention which took awhile I told her what I needed & asked her if she could please scan the other 2 in while she was there fearing that these would also say assistance needed when she left, which has happened to me before She did it but before she did she seriously turned her head up & around to me with her jaw thrust out & a look on her face like she was going to say something nasty, her eyes glaring at me There are many employees here that are rude disrespectful lazy and don’t know how to bag groceries, that’s why I use self checkout but this woman takes the cake She is very unprofessional, broadcasts everything about herself & does the bare minimum 7-12-23 I shop almost exclusively at this Meijers & have for many years Approximately a week ago I was using the self service checkout closest to the pharmacy as I always do This particular day an extremely large woman Tonya last initial D I believe with long red hair & an extremely loud voice was working in this area In prior visits to this store I have frequently witnessed this woman interacting with customers and have noticed that she talks down to customers particularly the elderly On this day the woman at the checkout next to me needed assistance but Tonya was on the phone for an extended period of time with her back to the checkout The customer commented to me “ sure I have all day to wait “ When she finally came over & in the midst of helping customer her supervisor came up to checkout but on the other side of partition Tonya pushed her large body in the space between myself & woman next to me although the space was obviously too small for her to fit into and impeded my ability to bag groceries She & the supervisor then proceeded to complain about the customer on the other side of me & the assistance that she required I commented well great now I have to listen to you complain about your job but as in our entire encounter I spoke in a quiet low tone so that others couldn’t hear me She turned & yelled loudly at me What did you say I was discussing something with my supervisor She came closer to me in an aggressive manner & prefaced all her comments with ma’am which I noticed previously & at this time that she uses as a swear word or weapon I then told her to get away from me but she continued to yell loudly so entire store could hear I then told her to shut up She then screamed I don’t have to deal with this although she initiated the encounter She then screamed at her supervisor ordering her to “deal with me” The supervisor then came around to where I was standing & stood behind me although she didn’t say anything to me I ignored her & didn’t even turn in her direction I had not said or done anything menacing to warrant this When I was leaving store & had to walk past Tonya she walked up to me with her face & voice taunting “ have a good day ma’am “ as a child would While I was walking out the door she was still screaming at the top of her lungs and asking the store at large if she could have me arrested Sheesh! Shame on supervisor for her & her employees...
Read moreI don't typically shop at this particular Meijer but it is next to my job so I stop there on occasion on my way home if I'm out early enough. It is of poorer quality and standards than other Meijers but what irked me the wrong way was while I placed my order at the deli counter recently. "Angie" I believe her name was, felt it necessary to give me her opinion on the meat that I selected. She first scoffed and told me, "they're all natural, they're MEAT." I then pointed to the one I was referring to and she immediately said that it was "flavorless." I told her that we like it and the reasons why we choose that selection (not that I should have even had to explain to the deli clerk WHY I choose what I do) but then she continued to make remarks about it throughout our entire interaction, it was incredibly strange. As she was cutting the meat, she talked to the other deli employee about it, although he didn't seem to want join in on her antics, so then she moved onto talking about how flavorless and gross it was with another customer standing next to me waiting for her order. "I guess it doesn't have any caramel coloring or other additives, ....no wonder it tastes so bad heheh" The other woman laughed with her as they made fun of my selection together. I should've said something then but I was taken aback and pretty uncomfortable about the whole thing, and not really in the mood to educate a deli employee. The other woman left and "Angie" called out to her to have a great day, then she came up and tossed my "flavorless" meat over the counter and barked "YOU GOOD?!" before walking away .... Why didn't I get a 'have the nice day,' considering I was the one she was actually "helping?" This woman was seriously mad about me choosing a healthier meat option, lol. After checking out, I walked up to the customer service desk to ask if they had a manager I could make aware of what had just happened. Two employees and the manager stood there chatting for a few minutes and nobody asked if I needed anything, they just tried to walk away from the desk before I stepped in front of them and asked if one of them was a manager. I told him about what had just happened and he just stared at his little Meijer phone thingy the entire minute that it took to explain what had happened and then said, "Yeah, I get it," and said he'd "make the deli team aware" before walking away still looking at his phone. Never an apology or even eye contact. All of it was very weird. I'll avoid this Meijer from now only solely based on this...
Read moreWhat a nasty store with horrible customer service. First I want to start off saying, Meijer has been going downhill for years, lately I've been trying to do all my shopping at Aldi.
Got out of work late today so I stopped in to grab a few items and while exiting by completing purchases at self checkout, a item rang up at a different price then expected. So I reluctantly walked over to the worker at computer and asked for assistance. A pudgy little incel named "Matthew" (pronouns "her"? According to coworker) stepped in to help. I explained that I was confused and that I read the sign different than the price at register and "Matthew" got attitude and said it's only if you buy 7. (not how I read the sign, but whatever I just wanted out of that dump) "Matthew" (tan hat) says "well take me to the sign then".
See, here's the problem Matthew, unlike you, I don't plan on spending 8 hours per day in this nightmare of a retail store, I just want to go home.
So I tried to explain that I didn't like shopping at Meijer and I just wanted to leave. Matthew replied something about how I should not come here or some petty comment. I said "I usually don't." Then the incel gets all mouthy, which in a way I appreciate because it makes my will to never step foot back into this godforsaken store again.
I know the store is low paying and I feel bad for the workers and I don't know why Matthew took my frustrations so personally, is her last name "Meijer"? So I really hope no punishment comes to Matthew for speaking up and being mouthy. The best resolution may just be for Matthew to continue that stellar career in retail at Meijer and I avoid this chain at all cost.
Why do they always put the most unfriendly staff at the self checkout?
Lastly I personally don't shoplift but one visit a few months back, I witnessed a young gal just packing her book bag and pockets with all sorts of merchandise and saw her being confronted at the checkout. They did nothing and she left with her five finger discount. Oh well. Maybe it was like a 7...
