This is in regard to their custom butchery services, not any other part of the business. We were quoted one price and ended up being charged double. We paid, unhappily, but really this was a failure in communication on their part, and they did nothing to make it right. We ended up slaughtering an extra animal to meet the minimum costs, all to be charged double anyway.
Also, the packages we received were poorly labeled, just a few stamps rather than any indication of what part of the animal it came from. None of the packages were weighed, and we're kind of doubtful we got everything back. I've spoken to a few other locals and this is apparently a common occurrence with Sunrise - missing part of your order when you get it back.
Finally, the butchering wasn't that good, especially considering the price we paid. A lot of the cuts are sloppy, in that they required additional processing to be ready for cooking. Ribs with extra flaps of other meat still attached, etc.
Definitely not impressed, feeling ripped off and will not be going back. I went back in to discuss some of this with the owner and he wasn't helpful or apologetic. We will be driving far out of the way to process the rest of our animals, and would not recommend...
Read moreI visited the Olympic Peninsula and Port Angeles recently with my sister. While we were there, she wanted to try smoked salmon. I heard of Sunrise Meats through Riqui, the woman who owned the house where we stayed in Port Angeles. When I walked into Sunrise, I was very hesitant about buying the salmon due to past experience where I bought smoked salmon from the local grocery store (it was gross). Lucky for me and for Sunrise Meats, there was another customer there who raved about the smoked salmon and recommended which ones to try. I bought enough for me and my sister to eat for 3 nights and never regretted it! When I opened the first package and took the first bite, I was hooked! It was really good. The other customer at Sunrise told me there was wet vs. dry varieties of the smoked salmon. I bought 2 wet and one dry. The dry wasn't as good. I've been craving it ever since and recently bought some from Trader Joe's. It was terrible and I had to throw it out! Sunshine Meats has the smoked salmon process down to a T. I was told they buy freshly caught salmon from local fisherman. You can definitely tell! It's really good stuff!! In fact, I'm checking to see how much it will cost to have some shipped to my house in...
Read moreWe have used Sunrise to process our meat for a few years now. This last time there was nothing but problems. Customers didn't get cuts thst were listed on their sheets, the burger had a off taste and smell, steaks that were inedible. There seems to be a large turn over of staff here and the quality of work has gone down. We put a lot of time and money into raising good, healthy and happy animals and people pay a lot of money for it, it is very frustrating and disappointing to have the end product ruined at the cutters. We will be going elsewhere...
