My grandmother and I were driving through town on mother's day on our way back to Edmonds from Forks. I wanted to surprise my grandmother with a nice mother's day breakfast at a reputable restaurant. I chose Chestnut Cottage because it had a great rating and seemed to be the best place in town. They had an hour wait, so I asked to get on the list and they were very accommodating. We walked around town for an hour and arrived around 1:30 for our reservation. It was like 90 degrees outside so I couldn't leave my service dog in the car. We all were in the car for a few hours before we got into town after leaving Cresent lake and I didn't want to overwhelm my dog by bringing her into the restaurant which is why we requested outdoor seating. I'm a larger woman with a spinal injury, so sitting in the chairs on the patio was really uncomfortable. The steel arms dug into my sides and my thighs. We had one of the worst tables as the sun was constantly heating up our space and we all had to hide away from the sun in the little bit of shade that we had. We did bring this up to our waitress' attention. She tried to move the umbrella, but it didn't work. No Other solutions were purposed. Our food took about 45 minutes to arrive. The waitress was gone for extended periods of time so I had to ask other waitresses for service. Honestly, I regret eating here and I feel like I wasted $65 on a mediocre meal while sitting at a restaurant that was extremely uncomfortable. Almost all the other tables on the outside patio had decent shade. We were boiling in the heat and I was stuck sitting in a chair that was cutting into my body. I didn't want to be too much of an inconvenience because we already asked to be seated outside on short notice, and I didn't want them to feel frustrated with us. But at the same time I feel like their attention to detail and customer comfort wasn't really present. These are things that services should be looking out for. It's as if they didn't really care about servicing us and they didn't care to look out for our comfort or potential needs. The food ended up making me sick, even though it did taste alright. My grandmother had a garden sandwich which was supposed to have cheese. She said it was delicious but they forgot the cheese and it was very over priced. We both got the same side salads, but we couldn't eat them because the bowl was too small for the salad that was in it, so we took it to go. We never ate the salad as it wilted hours later in the car. I also had to wait an additional 10 minutes to eat my meal because our waitress forgot our forks. I realize it was mother's day and I understand that people get busy. However, there was a lot of things that just didn't really math out to me and I really regret choosing this restaurant. The food is 3 stars, the service was kindly 3 stars, and the atmosphere was 3.7 stars. Ultimately we felt forgotten about and we felt like an inconvenience. It was really uncomfortable and I would like to never eat here again. Everyone was nice though. Like socially everything was kind smiles and there was...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at the Chestnut Cottage Restaurant, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The restaurant exudes a charming traditional style atmosphere that transports you to a bygone era. It's a wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely meal, and their brunch was truly a treat.
One of the standout features of this establishment is their home-baked goods. The quality and taste of their baked goods are exceptional. I couldn't resist trying the blueberry coffee cake, and it turned out to be a must-try item on their menu. The cake had the perfect texture - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the blueberry filling was just right, not overly sweet. It's evident that they pay great attention to the details of their food, and it truly shines through in every bite.
The restaurant itself is a sight to behold – beautiful and immaculately clean. Even the restroom surprised me with its fresh smell and light music, a testament to the thought and care they put into the overall dining experience.
It's worth noting that the service here is a bit on the slow side, but I didn't mind at all. It seems that most of the customers are local elderly folks who come here to spend their mornings leisurely, and the relaxed pace fits in perfectly with the ambiance. It's a place to savor your meal and enjoy the company of friends or family.
In summary, Chestnut Cottage Restaurant offers a truly unique and enjoyable dining experience. From the traditional ambiance to the delectable brunch options and exceptional home-baked goods, it's a gem that deserves recognition. If you find yourself there, don't miss out on the blueberry coffee cake – it's an...
Read moreBest breakfast in recent memory! ...and I go out for breakfast regularly. I seek out new breakfast cafes, eateries, and restaurants. I make new friends so I can have new excuses to meet for breakfast at new breakfast spots. I now have a reason to make several new friends in Port Angeles. The building itself was a gem amidst a small-town business area (there's a Walgreen's across the street). Just driving up I could tell it was going to be different. The interior is tastefully decorated, and the seating is spaced out well (you're not eating on top of the table next to you). It felt a bit elevated over a typical breakfast restaurant (definitely not a diner). We were greeted and seated right away. Friendly hostess followed by a server who was more than friendly...like neighborly. The menu is also elevated, but not to the extent that it's foreign. You can still get eggs and bacon or a good omelet, but there are new options to consider. I had the Montrachet Scramble...herbed eggs, bacon, goat cheese. OMGoodness, it was delicious. We shared the creme brulee french toast... full disclosure: my wife is a pastry chef and makes a wonderful creme brulee french toast casserole...soooo good. She and I both agreed that the Chestnut Cottage version was better! My wife loved here biscuits and gravy and our daughters enjoyed their eggs, pancakes, and sausage. We will go back to Port Angeles for a few reasons and those tripS will always include a stop at the Chestnut...
