the free weight Olympic bars should have been thrown away years ago. no knurling left and the finger rings on a couple bars is completely worn down which takes over a decade. the benches are backed up into the wall making a safe spotter lift impossible also the 45s cant slide onto bottom holders because they hit the wall. the 1 Olympic bar didnt feel 45lbs. scale in mens locker room stays in middle from 216-222lbs so it is not calibrated. I can see this being used for the pool and racquet ball.but as for free weights the bars are unsafe and need to be replaced.also Olympic bars under 45lbs should be labeled on end caps with the weight. I have over 30years exp. if your the manager reading this and wonder why this is so dangerous here is the answer. the finger rings on the bar help the lifter identify when their hands are bilaterally symmetrical so when you lift off weight it's not off balance. having 2 different weight Olympic bars (excluding female olympic) that are same length but 2 different weights will throw someone off if they use the heavy bar on a different day not knowing its heavier than the other Olympic bar. there is 1 cheap chrome plated bar there, that has finger rings but no knurling. YORK or TEXAS Bars made in USA should be bought for this YMCA.im sure local powerlifters would even donate some older TEXAS/YORK brand bars. other than that it was clean and the staff was nice. just needs more scales, and have them calibrated, quality Olympic bars and please spend the whopping $20 and get real bar clamps not those spring weight clamps which are...
Read moreHonestly just fed up with this. I pay $36 a month to mainly play basketball. The children are always taking up the entire court so that just defeats the whole purpose of me going. You guys tell me “come in the mornings when the courts are free”. I’m sorry I’m in college and have classes all morning but yet you guys give no discounts for Daytona State College Students. If you want to take the kids the play soccer, do it on the SOCCER field outside right around the corner, not on a basketball court. I hate the fact that the only reliable time to come are the weekends. I don’t utilize all the things here like I said I only play basketball. It’s so ridiculous how children are the reason I can’t play yet I’m still paying full price. You guys don’t realize that people have things to do in the morning and can’t always come. On top of that, the courts aren’t even good. I have basketball shoes with excellent grip, yet I’m slipping every time I dribble the ball. There’s so much dirt on the courts it makes playing a decent pick up game impossible. Probably because all the kids coming from the playground kicking dirt all over the courts and your employees can’t clean up after them for whatever reason. I’m honestly just considering permanently canceling my membership. It’s sad when a basketball court is mostly used for other activities non related to basketball. This has been an ongoing issue and needs to...
Read moreFirst of all, I would like to talk about the misuse of the basketball courts, many of us don't appreciate that when we go to the YMCA solely to play basketball, it is taken up by childcare, because they have to separate the boys from the girls just to "protect their innocence". I also am against the rudeness of the manager towards the children. Many of the children who go their from anywhere, are the only ones who go their out of anyone in their family. If the rudeness doesn't stop, we will cancel our costly memberships, and go to the much friendlier Port Orange Recreational Center, and that's valuable money lost. Also, when we tried to bring a guest, they wouldn't let us, because they call it a "liability" even though none of us have ever suffered a major injury. The only reason why I didn't give it a zero was because, first of all 0 stars is not an option, and secondly, the staff, other than the manager, tries their best to be friendly. One other thing before I conclude, when we tried to file a complaint while we were physically at the Y, the manager followed us, and told us to step away from the customer service desk. Since that happened, that's why I'm...
