Bask Tanning & Airbrushing — Local services in Portland

I wanted to like this place so much. It’s so conveniently located for me and I’ve tanned here multiple times hoping the bad experiences were just a fluke.

The first time, they told me my tan “wouldn’t work” and “usually doesn’t show up” if you’re menstruating. Not “sometimes” not “occasionally”. “Usually”.

I asked if should reschedule and they said “no”. Confused I said “but you just said it comes out badly ‘most of the time’-I can just wait a few days” they said no, and said I needed to purchased an add on spray. I was reluctant and said, “really, I can just come back” but they recommenced I tan anyway.

I purchased the add on spray in addition to my tan and my tan washed off completely after waiting 12 hours. Normally my spray tans are great after 7-8 hours of developing. I went in again a few weeks later hoping it was a one time mistake but the next tan I received was spotty, poorly airbrushed, caky, and uneven. Some of it stayed but parts of my body were sprayed repeatedly, some almost not at all. I had brown spotting and dark brown steaks in random places. I know to not sweat, pat dry, and avoid all moisture after spray tanning. I moisturize and exfoliate daily prior to tanning, but not the day of tanning. I have never had a problem with spray tans before.

I went back a 3rd time hoping to try a different tech (it would be the 3rd tech to spray tan me) and again, even with a new tech, half of it washed off in streaks and came out orange and spotty after ample developing time. It would seem the quality of tanner they use is incredibly poor. I spray tanned elsewhere to even out the tan from Bask and it came out normal and even and has stayed the entire week. I’ve been spray tanning for years and this is easily the most expensive for the least quality. Im writing this review because if you’re like me and assume more expensive can mean better quality, it was not my experience here and I wish I would’ve saved my money. This place is awesome!! My tan is beautiful!! I'm going on my honeymoon in 3 days and wanted a natural glow so I look good in a swimsuit!! I felt totally comfortable and my spray tan artist was soo chill with the most laid back energy. I didn't even care that I was naked in front of her. It's like she was literally ONLY looking at the spot she was Airbrushing. She was VERY respectful!!

Also I was 12 mins late. There policy is 10 mins only. I called her like 5 times on my way there because I desperately needed to get in. I know I pushed the rules but she was very nice and professional to me. I was so scared she was going to be upset but she professionally told me this was a one time thing and after that she was sooo sweet and kind. I can't thank her enough. As far as employees go, I hope the managers understand they have an amazing employee that knows how to handle tough situations when clients present them. For that I am so sorry.. But in the same breath I am very impressed with the level of respect and guidance that she gave me. I Will only go to Bask because of her and her skill level. She did such a great job. I am soo happy with the results... The tan is even and it's soo beautiful. I didn't realize how much I needed color!!!

As many other people I have been tanning for quite some time. I wanted to try and get away from the tanning beds as much so i was looking for somewhere to "spray tan" because that was all i knew. After a horrible experience at a regular tanning salon i vowed to never do that again. UNTIL i found Bask. I was told about Bask because of Britney Hein who has worked there for years. I took her advice and made an appointment for an airbrush. Let me tell you this is NOTHING like a "spray tan" and i always correct people when they call it that. From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted with friendly people from the people at the front desk, to the one who is actually airbrushing you. Some people may think that airbrushing is "awkward or uncomfortable" and i cant say that i didn't go into it thinking the same thing. But there was not a moment from the second i walked in the door that i was uncomfortable at all. I do not airbrush anywhere else, nor will i ever tell anyone else to risk going someplace that isn't Bask. The color is not orange, there are no streaks and it is not unreasonably priced.
