While the owner of Retro Game Planet is friendly, my overall experience with the store was very disappointing.
First, the store had a noticeable musty/moldy smell, which gave the impression it wasnât being properly maintained. The game selection was just âokayâ, a mix of retro and classic titles, but lacking compared to other small game stores in the area.
The most frustrating part was the misleading displays. The store had consoles and collectible figures on the shelves in boxes, as if they were available for purchase. When I asked about a boxed blue GameCube, I was told it wasnât for sale because it was broken and missing parts. Some of the figures on display were also damaged. Having broken or non-sellable items displayed as if theyâre for sale is very misleading and unprofessional.
I ended up purchasing a GameCube memory card for $25, only to discover it was corrupted and unusable. That was the final straw for me.
There are other local game stores with better inventory, working consoles that are actually for sale, and overall better presentation. While the owner is a nice person, the store needs serious improvements before I would consider returning.
UPDATE: The owner, Rustin Williams slid into my DMs and THREATENED to put me on blast all for leaving this review. Instead of simply taking the L and criticism, he made a post on Facebook putting me on blast. This is NOT how you run a business. This is only making you look worse. I donât see his store lasting long now.
Also, telling your followers to spam 5 star reviews isnât going to save your business. đThis let us know that youâre hiding something. Grow up man, youâre in your 40s acting like your...
Read moreFirst time customer on a Saturday where they were running a 15% off sale, and the place was super busy but the employees were very helpful and knowledgeable about the trade-in process. They gave me a good trade value for everything considering they have overhead and need to make a profit, it was honestly about on par with what I was going to ask, and they give the option for instore credit to spend on a variety of games, consoles, toys, etc. Everything vintage you could think of or anything to tickle your nostalgia bone can be found in the store. I live around Birmingham and there isnât a store that is comparable. The owner Rustin was very friendly and took a lot of time to help me get a big deal today and threw in some freebies with my purchase that was super appreciated! Will definitely be back, highly...
Read moreIt's a decent game store, but too much sports games and bargain bin filler. I think I saw 7 Saturn games, all sports, same with Dreamcast. No PS Vita games that I could see. The N64 selection was lacking, PS1 looks like it was picked through years ago. PS2 had a pretty good selection, same with Xbox 360. I didn't really see any heavy hitters, even in the glass case. Running a retro game store has to be getting tougher and tougher these days. I was disappointed, but I don't blame this store in particular, as finding games I actually want to buy is getting as hard as finding good deals. If you're a casual gamer, you're likely to find something here, but if you're a collector or already have a huge collection, you might have a harder time finding something specific or that you don't...
