My wife and I have been members for over 30 years. We remain members because we agree with the Seven UU Principles and enjoy being with others who feel the same way. Furthermore, we gain spiritual sustenance and genuine fellowship from the Minister, staff and other members. As part of a denomination that "Stands on the Side of Love" , we act on our beliefs. For example, this congregation has conducted a "Spring Fair" annually for over 50 years to raise money for local non-profit organizations that provide services to local residents. All of the things sold at the fair, except for some of the food, have been donated by members and friends who recognize that the funds raised will go to other service organizations. No one who donates stuff to the fair receives any payment in return. In many cases, members will purchase what other members have donated. Thus the Spring Fair facilitates the re-use of things which the donor no longer wanted. The buyer gets a gently used item at a reasonable price. Less stuff goes to a land fill, or "dumped" , and the money goes to social service organizations...

This is a great church. The dress code is to wear whatever you want, and some people will wear jeans and sweaters or t-shirts while others will wear suits or dresses, but there is no feeling of pressure about it. They have a strong musical director, but no organ, so the music feels more contemporary; they also have a music group for children. As Unitarians, they are truly accepting of people of all faiths, as well as people who do not have faith. It's so refreshing to hear a minister talk about loving our Muslim neighbors and wanting to help Buddhists or Hindus without trying to convert them first. People who are LGBTQ are welcome, as are atheists who really just want the fellowship. They truly practice what they preach, and evidently understand the gospel much better than some Christian churches do. Friendly community with a lot of options. Good place to check out if you're not into mainstream religious dogma but are still looking for somewhere offering community and/or spiritual exploration and/or social justice activity and/or a program for your kids to explore ethics. Worth looking into Unitarian Universalist beliefs beforehand- an open denomination with a modern feel that's not based on specific beliefs about divinity but rather on a shared set of values, so people from different religious backgrounds (including atheists and agnostics) fit right in, which is pretty interesting for a church.
