They told me they could make a safe dish for my husband. It turns out, they couldn't.
I've eaten takeout from Elite Five many times over the years. My husband has a serious mushroom allergy, and I've always been very clear with them and it hasn't been a problem. Yesterday, I tried to place an order on the website and it crashed. I called in my order and told them about the allergy. I confirmed a second time at the end of the call. When my husband picked it up, he noticed that there was nothing on the receipt about his allergy. I called them again to confirm it was safe, and they assured me it was.
My husband spent the night vomitting. We ate the same amount of the same food, so it wasn't food poisoning (not that it would be better if it was), and I was fine. I called the manager today and he kept insisting that there were no mushrooms in the dishes we ordered. That isn't the standard for an allergy safe dish. It was likely cross contamination from a utensil or a work surface. His apologies were non-apologies. I no longer feel safe ordering food from here for my husband.
I strongly recommend that if you have a food allergy, you steer clear. They screwed up, refused to acknowledge it, and generally seemed unconcerned that they have a...
Read moreMy husband and I ended up at Elite Five by default after trying to get a table at the Meeting House (in the building shared with EF) and deciding we did not want to wait half an hour. Fate turned us in the right direction. The Elite Five ambiance is calmer and lighter -- much more pleasant for conversation. The food was delicious. I had seared scallops with Thai sweet chili and creamy corn sauce -- a perfect combination of flavors. My husband had oxtail, which he enjoyed. We sat along the side overlooking Avalon Bay. That section is the bulk of the seating. It's is simply decorated with a nice mix of materials. There is a small section that looks out at the garage, so not as nice a view. There is also a beverage counter for the servers in the back of that section, which makes it seem like a fast food restaurant. They need to screen the beverage area or move it into the kitchen. I must follow a gluten-free diet so asked about the dishes I was ordering. When the food was served, the chef came out to explain what was on my plate and assured me it was all gluten-free. It is a BYOB restaurant, so that helps keep the final tab down a bit. A really great addition to Princeton's...
Read moreSituated at the farther end of Witherspoon St, about 10 minutes' walk from Princeton Public Library, Elite Five is a nice new addition to the highly competitive Princeton dining scene, or rather Princeton fine-dining scene. Very convenient parking at the adjacent 100 Albert Way Parking (covered, small fee). The menu is quite intriguing; with the usual pan-Asian/ Japanese specialties such as gyoza, about 15 varieties of yakitori, sushi, sashimi, maki, chirashi, regular and specialty rolls, the restaurants offers such dishes as spaghetti carbonara, braised oxtails, braised short rib, rib eye steaks, etc. Our appetizers, Cured Scallops and Cured Cold Smoked Yellowtail Tuna featured pleasing art of plating. The food quality is good, the portions are of decent size (with the exception of maki), the service is efficient. During the pandemics, the outside dining area offers good distance between the tables. There are no dessert served right now due to the staff shortages. The pricing is slightly elevated as per value vs quality. Overall, Elite Five definitely...
