This used to be the hospital of choice in 2014 for my mom's care, BUT NOT ANYMORE. This has been our WORSE experience dealing with the faculty of doctors, residents, nurses, and pct (cna). Now before I begin, not all the Nurses or CNA were bad, it was those who cause her setback which made it worse. The other staff were fine working with but the people who are constantly caring for you are the nurses and PCTs.
I had my mom transferred out of another very negative hospital to get a piece of mind knowing her care will be well cared for but this was NOT the case. I had to be there EVERYDAY to advocate for her from morning to night and if I couldn't be there, I sent my family to watch over her. The Residents were not helpful at allall because they would not LISTEN to the facts I had to offer as her care provider. I had to tell them serveral times to listen to me and my experiences to get her well. Bad things would normally occur at night which NO ONE could explain, but while there, you just don't get the same results. Since being there at night to learn what was occurring, I WITNESSED the PCTs not following procedures and caused her to aspirate by laying her down with the feeding tube still running or giving her thin liquids which were not thickened properly. I had to catch their neglect and call them out and reported it to the charge nurse and nursing manager. But the doctors didn't believe me and wanted to continue pushing a G-tube. She had to go back to ICU and I was told after she came back to the regular floor she was cleared of all infections, then in 24hr, she had a new one which was a staff infection.
I was told doctors meet twice a day but they generally come back with totally different reports or diagnoses. I reported this to the management. Their senior resident (McDougal) was very unknowledgeable, rude, and had her own motives which was NOT beneficial towards my mother's care and I requested she be relieved of doing anything pertaining to her. She pushed my mother into having a swallow evaluation while being lathargic only to fail (After I disagreed and requested NOT to have this test done several time until she is very alert). I had to actually post signs ALL over the room for her care since what I told them several times did not register and they still would not READ signs or charts and continue to give her improper care. (The fundamental of knowing) I then had to stop them all together and do it myself to prove they were doing things wrong for her care and that's when things started going up again until I can remove her from the hospital altogether. Also, she only picked up 1 lb from entrance until I took over her feedings nearly 4 weeks later. She then picked up 6 lbs in several days and her BP and sugar came back to a normal range. When I brought my own foods, her vitals was looking a heck of a lot better. The Dietitians were a big joke and definitely could not be trusted either. THEY KNOW EVERYTHING but yet, could not get my mother's health back up in the month they had her. REALLY?
Even when I requested a discharge there was resistance and I was determined this discharge was going to take place quickly and we FINALLY got her out of this place. She came home with a bleeding Heparin shot wound I had to nurse close. There's just too much negative.
I would not recommend going here EVER again and will be going elsewhere if I have to get her medical attention. This was an absolute nightmare for Loyola to get this horrible in caring for people. The best people were the Chaplin, our Social worker, Speech Pathologist (who's expertise was not respected by the physicians), Respiratory and some of the nurses. Overall, I do rate them a 1 star because she came out worse from their care and had I not been there, probably connected to life support from the inexperienced staff still in learning mode and death ears. WHERE ARE THE SEASONED/EXPERIENCED Doctors at anymore? Loyola has lost my trust and confidence I had before. Since leaving, she has display great signs of...
Read moreMy uncle would have lived longer if it weren't for the lack of compassion displayed by some of his healthcare providers.
Nurse Tia interrupted his sleeping time (knowing that he hasn't slept for days) by wanting to draw his blood during the wee hours of the morning. Seems kind of stupid that she also gave his Melatonin before the procedure because it defeats the effect of the med. She couldn't find a good vein and so she called in 2 different nurses to help her out (understandable), but at the end they had to draw blood from his foot, which was so painful for him. It took them almost 2 hours to draw out the blood. They took out most of his sleeping time. Mind you my uncle kept on looking at the clock in desperation because he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep anymore with all the anxiety these people had put him in. I watched his oxygen saturation slowly go down all throughout the procedure. I also asked Nurse Tia to wait until my uncle's saturation would go a bit higher (like how my uncle also wanted it) before she gave his heparin shot, but she ignored my plea and continued anyway. Even that caused my uncle's saturation to go to 80%. Unbelievably callous for a nurse. I wish we had Nurse Christine that night. She was very patient and compassionate and did a really good job at making my uncle comfortable and NOT PRESSURED. Nurse Christine made it clear to my uncle that also being too anxious would cause his o2 saturation to go into dangerously low levels.
A kind touch, an uplifting voice like Nurse Christine's. She did wonders to my uncle's o2 saturation that night. I wish we had her one more night and even more...
The day my uncle died, 2 techs went into his room and took his chest x-ray around 5.45 am. My uncle wasn't looking forward to that because he was already too stressed about the blood-draw and ABG. Anyway, I had to step out of his room and leave him under their hands until they were done. As I was hovering in the MICU's hallway and as they were about to step out, my uncle searched for me with his panicked and fear-stricken eyes that were crying to me for help. These techs left him in an uncomfortable position that made it more difficult for him to breathe and cause his O2 sat to go as low as 75%. I immediately ran to his side and helped him find a comfortable position. Before I left him with the x-ray techs, his O2 sat was going in between 84%-88%. That chest x-ray right there did him. What's even worse was that all of a sudden we saw new faces rush into the room, and a bunch of doctors looking at my uncle sternly and telling him he basically has no chance anymore. Wow too much anxiety being caused in a few hours in between 2 am to 8am. I am still upset with the service these people have showed. No compassion at all.
My uncle's o2 sat was doing fine when I showed up for my shift that night. His O2 sat levels were at high 90s even without the high flow oxygen mask. And this was around 7pm to 12 midnight.
I know for a fact that his lungs are really bad. But the body can also heal when it is given a chance to REST/SLEEP. His disease, sleep-deprivation and poor nutrition due to loss of appetite from the antibiotics are all factors to his condition getting worse.
The mind is also a powerful thing. I remember when my uncle's o2 sat would go low, and he would ask me what his O2 sat was I would not tell him the number that was dispalyed on the monitor, but would tell him a higher number. This act would cause his O2 sat to go up to 4 levels. I have seen Nurse Christine also cause the same thing on my uncle's O2 sat everytime she uttered encouraging words to my uncle
I would also like to say thank the last nurse to take care of my uncle on the day he passed away. She was very compassionate. My uncle also liked the guy nurse (i don't know his name). He appreciated the fact that this nurse still came to his room to say hi and wish him well even if he wasn't his nurse that night.
To all those nurses who took time to wish my uncle well and even brought him...

I laid on the side of a bed not being able to move for over 8 hours, I was in excruciating pain I felt like my head was going to explode. I had a rash and my skin was burning. I asked them for ice packs. I put ice packs all over my own body to help with the pain. My bloop pressure was extremely high the hole time, they kept telling me that they would order my blood pressure medication they never did. My blood pressure was 198/138 my heart rate was at 131! They tried to hold me down and put stuff in my iv, was pinches my cheeks trying to make me take pills that I didnât need nor wanted !! Then the night nurse (coming into shift) walked in on them and asked them wth they were doing to me, they dropped all meds walked outta the room, the night nurse came bk in made sure I was ok, but didnât seem like this had been the 1st time heâs seen this!! Thank God for the lord above and my big brother being there! I donât know that I would be alive today!!! There were so many deaths when I was there, in fact I was the only one still alive on the floor when my brother and I walked out! The night nurse got the doc , that doc had no idea wth was going on, and the nurses stories never lined up and made since to her!
