Their annual Oktoberfest is a great place to gather with friends and family. Bring cash and get there early for a table under the tents. Parking is $10. There is a remote parking lot with school busses to shuttle you back and forth. There is a charge to enter. There are also a few vendors with hats, pins, jewelry, t-shirts etc and a number of used and new German clothing, steins and accessories under the tent as you arrive. They have dressing rooms for trying on clothes. Trade cash for tickets when you arrive and purchase raffle tickets! You will need a minimum of 20 tickets for a platter, a beer, and a dessert. Bring your own stein or mug to fill or get a pitcher. This year I got the currywurst platter with wonderful German potato salad and red cabbage. The dessert table had a large variety of sweets. Later I bought a potato pancake and applesauce and we got some soft pretzels. There are activities for children - a magic show and a not to be missed Punch and Judy show plus a nice playground and a craft area to make a birdhouse or a shield. There are plenty of bathrooms and they were clean and stocked. There is a singing men's group, a band, and lots of opportunities for audience participation...
Read moreI’ve been to the Munich Oktoberfest and even with that experience I always have a fantastic time at the Lancaster Oktoberfest and the Christmas market every year and would absolutely recommend checking it out! HOWEVER… this year I came with my husband and while paying admission I was stopped and asked to pour out my water bottle. I mentioned to the admission lady that I was pregnant and wouldn’t be drinking and would need my water. I offered to show her the contents in my bottle in the off chance she was hesitant to allow me to enter without seeing. She stated that she couldn’t make exceptions for me or she would need to for others. Her dumping my water required me to buy multiple $2 bottles. The part that I’m frustrated with was when I ran into family and looked around inside the Liederkranz others had brought in small coolers with water and outside food. I’m not exactly sure why I was targeted and why I wasn’t allowed to bring in my water bottles ESPECIALLY when I told the lady I...
Read moreSaturday December 3rd our friends took us to the Lancaster Liederkranz Chorus Winter Concert. It was our first time hearing this Group and it will not be the last! They were fabulous under the Direction Barry Sawyer & Accompanist William Rhoads The song selection was excellent and perfect for the Holiday Season. It was a great start for the Holidays. My wife lived in Germany while studying for a year at Marburg University and as a retired German teacher she and I were so impressed with the "sound and quality" of the Chorus. It exceeded expectations and brought back found memories of a Christmas Eve service we attended with our German friends in Kornwestheim 5 years ago. The Hobby Chor was a fun and quality "Opening Act" ;-) Thank you for preserving the German culture in...
