The Vitamin Shoppe — Local services in Raritan

Awesome people, place and products. With GNC in the shopping center across the street, it's important to have better selection and inventory to satisfy the hardcore training enthusiast or the health conscious individual. My friend and I have been shopping there for years. The staff is phenomenal from top to bottom. Rob, David, and Joe C have been there long enough to know our names and the products that we usually purchase monthly.They are willing to help and spend some time answering questions about new products and the pros and cons of adding them to our existing diets. We would never shop at GNC, where the store is so small that it feels like a jail cell, the employees change every week, and the whole tone of the visit is to get you to join their "Gold Club" On top of it all, prices are much higher than at the VS, and the employees can't hold a candle in comparison when it comes to knowledge of product, alternatives, and just making you feel comfortable and appreciated. As a whole, this store, and its manager Rob especially, go out of their way to reach their goals as great customer service representatives as well as to help the VS reach their goals. This review is going to be an odyssey of the unnecessary. I came in a few weeks ago to buy a product. At checkout, I was informed that the product was subject to a buy one get one free deal, great! They rang me up and the one that I bought was the last one. No big deal, they would order it in for me. Despite some hiccups with the in-store system, the employee that I spoke to was friendly and helpful. He called me and left a voicemail when it came in, so I drove up to pick it up a few days later. When I arrived, another employee informed me that they had to restock the product in question, and then attempted to charge me again for it, citing a 5-day restock policy that was not mentioned in either of the voicemails I received. It would be one thing to charge a restocking fee or something, but to try to charge a customer a second time for a product that they already paid for is truly asinine. This could have all been avoided from the beginning, and I'd be sitting with my original product that I paid full price for, none the wiser. I'm no expert, but I think it is generally considered bad for business to offer a customer something for free only to renege...

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I had such a great experience at this Vitamin Shoppe that I had to say something. I originally stopped by just to grab some protein, but the associate who helped me (didn’t catch his name, unfortunately) went above and beyond. Not only did he help me find exactly what I was looking for — including protein and single-use drinks — but he also took the time to give me some really useful advice related to my lactose sensitivity. He was super knowledgeable, friendly, and didn’t try to upsell me on anything I didn’t need. Just genuinely helpful and insightful.
