We have passed by Time to Eat Diner so many times over the past few years, and finally we decided to try it (it helped that somewhere or another it was rated one of NJ's best diners). My wife, my two kids and myself were promptly seated by one of the best waitresses I've had in a while. She was fun and attentive even if she seemed a bit over worked. My wife tried one of the specials, the pork shank osso buco. Although the meat was tender and tasty, she was a little disappointed that it didn't come stew-style or on a bed of rice. It was just the shank on a plate with a side of mashed potatoes. She had said no gravy for the potatoes figuring there would be some sauce with the shank, but I'm sure if she had asked they would have given her some after the fact. She did not complain, because the meat was actually quite good. She did send back her side plate of steamed vegetables though. The broccoli was overcooked to the point of mush, and it tasted strongly of green bean water. The waitress admitted that they cook all the veggies in one big apparatus, and she gave us two other veggie sides to try: the corn, and the green beans (in tomato sauce). They also were not very good.
The kids enjoyed their chicken fingers, and spaghetti and meatballs. Oh, and the free ice cream that came with their meal was a hit too.
I had something that wasn't on the menu (Bangers and Mash), and they prepared it specially for me. They had Italian Sausage (for their sausage sandwich wrap) and they had mashed potatoes, so I figured I'd ask. The waitress checked with the kitchen, and they had no problem. The manager said a reasonable price, and I was able to chow down. I enjoyed it quite a bit; of course I was in the mood for it, but regardless it didn't let me down. The sausages were split and grilled to perfection and the mashed potatoes were just how I like them (no lumps, but not too liquid). Overall, I think we'd go back, but probably skip the...
Read moreFirstly, even if the seating comply with Covid-19 guidelines, things still seemed a little cramped. Our waitress consistently went into the kitchen with her mask off as she was having some water right beforehand which I think is very dangerous and also probably non-compliant with Covid-19 guidelines. Otherwise, they did offer the ability to view the menu online, but then completely negated that by not mentioning it and also giving people a physical menu. I am just hoping that they sanitize each page of the menu after each person, but I did not see that happen while I was there.
On to the food: most of the food was of decent diner style quality and prices were fair. A couple complaints though. Many standard items such as whipped cream on Belgian waffles was not something that was automatically spoken about by the waitress. Also, an item on the menu that came with "hash browns, home fries, or grits and toast" supposedly didn't come with toast. If my misunderstanding of how the menu was written caused me to suspect that there was toast that came with the menu item, then I think that it should be rewritten so that the grits and toast option was written before the home fries and hash browns option. Also, I ordered a new dish called huevos rancheros which advertised fried tortillas, salsa, eggs, cheese served over beans. The cheese was just shredded cheese thrown on and the black beans were basically a pile of mush. Also, by fried tortillas they meant tortilla chips. Meaning loteral Tostitos or whatever brand they bought. Highly doubt they made them fresh at all. That was the most hilarious and also most disappointing thing I think I have ever seen at a diner. This is the second time that I have come to this diner. I can't recall how well the first time was, but I don't necessarily think this is someplace that I would ever...
Read moreThis place should be closed down permanently - avoid at all costs. I grew up a block away from this place and I’ve gone here for 20+ years. I see other similar recent similar complaints. About the same waitress. My last experience there was a lunch that I picked the spot for, for myself and 7 colleagues. We took up two booths in the same section. After ordering drinks I could see our waitress casually coughing and using her right hand to cover her mouth, then moments later carrying plates of food for customers, with the same hand. Days later, all 8 of us tested positive for COVID. We are all doctors and unable to carry out surgery’s. We all called the restaurant, at different times, to share our experience and warnings with management. Each manager responded by getting angry and rude saying “it wasn’t my shift” and “she had a sinus infection”. Really? She told us it was allergies. Do you not test any employees showing symptoms? What an absolute joke.
On top of being a cesspool of COVID and actively spreading it without any care for public safety. I found a hair in my eggs and all of our silverware/plates were covered in grime. It would’ve been more sanitary to boil eggs on the hood of our cars in the parking lot.
This staff of restaurant leadership is absolutely the most rude and unconcerned management team I have ever encountered and is nothing short of a public safety hazard.
Mistakes happen. But the management team responding like this is totally unacceptable and all 8 of us will be sending formal complains to the department of health naming each member of management we spoke with.
How about this. Be nice and take accountability for your the team you are on. Be the example you wish to see in the world instead of sleezeball money hungry restaurant owners that care only about...
