NATIONAL FRESH SUPERMARKET — Local services in Reading

This store has def changed thru out the yrs....but for the better!! It's always clean in there the shelves and freezers are usually always stacked/full..... The food is at pretty good prices and it has a pretty good selection!! BUT....The only complaint I do actually have is on a FEW of the workers.... Sometimes the guys in the meat department (I'M NOT SAYING ALL OF THEM) aren't the nicest and they will not say excuse me when they bump into you with their cart full of meat or when they expect u to move out of their way!! *Yesterday afternoon (Monday around 2:30ish) I went in to grab a few things before work, and the older gentleman who is on the register was so ignorant and as he was ringing up the customer in front of me he's on a personal cell phone call laughing away speaking about a she didn't know how much he owed cuz he didn't tell her, she had to look off the screen to see what she had owed, she handed him the money, and he basically acted like she was non existent.... she asked him am I okay meeting am I okay to leave cuz he didn't say nothing he still didn't say a so she grabbed the cart with her items in it and then brought him a new car to sit at the end of his register (which that's his job).... Now it's my turn up at the register you didn't even acknowledge still laughing and talking on the phone about that animal/bird!! My items were under $5 he did not tell me what I had owed, the only way I noticed is by looking at the screen of the register.... I handed him the money for my items and he was STILL talking on the phone!! I had to stand there until he was ready to put my money into the register and then to actually physically give me my change back cuz he was just holding it in his hand.... I work at Target...I know that we are not allowed to take personal calls while we're working ESPECIALLY standing there at the register with customers!!! I couldn't call yesterday because I had to go right to work, but I did call today and I asked to speak to the manager about that situation. I don't want to get anyone in trouble but I think that was just so ignorant and disrespectful to be like that to your customers when you can go on your break/lunch and talk about some animal or flirting on the phone.... THAT DEFINITELY WAS NOT AN EMERGENCY PHONE CALL!! But I must say the manager was extremely nice and did listen to everything that I had to say about that entire situation!! So I do...

"National Fresh Supermarkets" had recently taken over "SAVE-A-LOT". At the moment, the shelves/refrigerators/freezers are bare cuz they are still in the process of stacking/filling them, the store is bright and clean, cashiers are very polite/friendly...BUT... I went in today to purchase a 64oz berry flavored "Juicy Juice" & I was a bit shocked...it was $6.79!!! 😳 The girl at the REGISTER said "it costs that much because its 64oz..." Prices for 64oz Juicy Juice at other local stores: *Walmart: $3.94 *Giant: $3.99 *Price Rite: $3.99 *Redners: $4.49 *Target: $4.89 *Save-A-Lot: $4.99 *National Fresh Supermarkets: $6.79 So honestly, it is WAY over priced/OR maybe they are charging WIC prices possibly...and if so, u can just go to ANY of the MANY local bodegas in the area if u dont mind WAY overpaying. Anyway, this area of Reading is mostly low-incomed families...with this store raising the price "Juicy Juice" from $4.99 to $6.79 I dont even want to know what some of the other items will be raised too once they get fully settled in....ALL the neighborhood ppl could just go over to the Price Rite or drive to/or have groceries delivered from Walmart, Weis, Giant, Aldi, Redners, Grocery...

Save-A-Lot more like spend a lot. Security guards that sit on the table where I'm supposed to bag up my groceries that has a sign clearly marked no children are allowed to sit here. Most of the food here seems like damaged items or misproduction items that would not be sold in a normal grocery store. For instance I bought the crackle Klondike ice cream bars and to my surprise there was no crackle on them. This would not be an issue, but you were charging full price if not overpriced for items that should be discount items.

Edit #1: bought seasoned chicken breast lunch meat on 1/13. Exasperation date was good but the meat was rancid and slimy. They did refund me for it. More proof they are selling under par food to inner City residents.
