Read moreI am a long-time Costco member and loyal customer. However, I had an extremely disappointing experience at your Redmond store on the morning of Saturday, August 2nd, and I would like to bring it to your attention in the hope that it will be addressed appropriately.
Summary of the incident:
While the customer ahead of us still had a large number of items on the counter and was in the process of loading them into their cart, the cashier began scanning our items and placing them on the same counter. This caused our items to become mixed with the previous customer’s. As a result, your associate, Sue, mistakenly packed some of our items into the other customer’s cart. We noticed this just as Sue was about to pack our third item and immediately intervened, asking the cashier not to rush and to wait until one customer has fully completed checkout before starting the next.
What followed was even more disappointing. Neither Sue nor the cashier offered us an apology for the confusion or inconvenience. Instead, Sue responded curtly with, “We try fast as we can,” a remark that came across as dismissive and unprofessional. Even more frustrating, Sue then apologized to the customer ahead of us and exchanged apologies with the cashier—while never once acknowledging us, the ones actually affected. There was no apology, no thank you, and not even a simple “goodbye” from either Sue or the cashier when our transaction concluded.
While there was no financial loss involved, the entire interaction left us feeling disrespected and frustrated. What should have been a smooth and pleasant Saturday morning shopping trip turned into a disappointing experience. Costco has a well-earned reputation for excellent customer service, but this encounter fell significantly short of that standard.
I hope that the store will review and reinforce proper checkout protocols to avoid similar issues in the future. More importantly, I urge that staff interacting with customers be reminded of the importance of showing basic courtesy and professionalism...
Read moreBy far the most disappointing Costco experience I’ve had. I visited to request a price adjustment on an item that recently went on sale, but the associate informed me that because it had been 30 days since purchase, they couldn’t honor it. When I asked for clarification, I was simply told “it’s policy.”
To better understand, I asked a hypothetical: if I were to buy the same item again at the new price and return it using my original receipt, would that be accepted? The associate confirmed yes, since Costco doesn’t have a return window. I requested to speak with a manager because the logic seemed inconsistent.
When the manager arrived, they discussed the situation with the associate in a dismissive tone. I calmly explained my confusion and the inconsistency I saw. After asking about the price difference, the manager repeated the same policy. I mentioned my earlier hypothetical again, and they said that approach would go “against the spirit” of Costco’s return policy, but admitted there would be no restriction if I chose to do it.
After an awkward silence, I asked if that meant my price adjustment was denied. The manager finally said they would honor it “just this one time.” However, after beginning the refund, they stopped midway, saying they were “confused” by the item. It turned out the item was not on a regular sale but a “corporate sale,” which supposedly made it ineligible for adjustment. As a customer, I found this distinction unclear and unreasonable.
While they eventually processed the adjustment, the experience left me feeling humiliated, dismissed, and disrespected. Neither the manager nor the associate offered an apology. The lack of professionalism and empathy was disheartening.
I will not be returning to this location and would advise other customers to save themselves the frustration—just repurchase and return rather than trying to deal with the unhelpful and...
