The Redmond Academy of Theatre Arts — Local services in Redmond

I am only speaking for my 3 year. My daughter registered for a week’s summer camp where kids of her age were trained to perform segments of a show together with older kids by the end of the week. I am not sure how they normally spent the day in the camp, but in the last show my daughter basically sat either off stage waiting or on the stage (with minimal activities) for over 20 mins out of a 30 mins performance show. The teacher actually had to shush these 3-4 year old kids several times in the mid of the show because they were BORED waiting and started talking to each other. Fairly speaking, older kids seem to enjoy the performance because they are assigned roles with more lines and more dances. So, I am thinking if the little kids cannot be as involved as older kids, the show probably should not mix different age groups together. And there is really no need to squeeze so much content into a week’s camp. As a parent, I just want to see my kid enjoy what she is doing. I don’t really care how long they can do in a week. It is not a “the more the better” case. My daughter was enthusiastic when she started but by the end of the week she said she doesn’t want to join anymore. Not a good choice...

The Redmond Academy of Theatre Arts is not an ideal place to send little kids for theatre learning. I am a big theatre fan so I enrolled my 5 year old son to one of their mixed-age musical theatre summer camps. My kid is outgoing and likes to enact his imaginary stories with his own antics. But throughout the week long camp at RA I could feel his energy waning. Knowing that he's likely one of the youngest in the camp I just encouraged him to participate and engage.

At the end of the week we were invited to a final performance. After sitting through the 10-15 minute show, we realized that our son was only asked to follow along in a regimented choreography. He gingerly made his moves. He did not get a single line of script. What's even worse was that from before to after the show, the teachers completely ignored him, and only gave attention to the older kids who were supposedly 'carrying the show'.

If these programs at RA of demand maturity, then please do not sell them to little kids and their families. I've seen other programs where 3-5 olds can really thrive and...

This place is fantastic. My daughter has really enjoyed all 3 summer camps that she has attended this year. I was absolutely blown away by the performances and was almost moved to tears by how amazing all of the children were. These children had songs, lines and choreography memorized within 4 days!!!! That just shows how dedicated the instructors/teachers are.

The staff is wonderful; so warm, helpful and kind. Every day that I dropped my daughter off I was greeted with a smile from the ladies at the front desk. I would definitely recommend Redmond Academy...
