I'm not usually one to write reviews but this experience was terrible I just felt like I should share. My boyfriend and I did the Safari escape room and from beginning to end the experience was just not great.
First off, when you walk in there is no reception desk or anything so you kind of awkwardly stand in this area which is fine but felt kind of confusing especially since no one was there to greet us.
There is a sign on the wall that says to ring for assistance so we did and then probably waited like 5 minutes before anyone came out. When they did, there was not even a 'Hi' or 'sorry for the wait.' The person immediately had an attitude and said "You needed to ring the bell." When we said we did we were just met with more questions - "Oh you did?" "Did you even hear it go off?" We obviously said yes to all these things and then they just said "Oh that's weird." The person did seem to be a young teenager so tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but also the customer service was just really lacking - not even customer service really but being a decent employee and saying hi to your customers before you come at them would be nice. We just did not appreciate being blamed when they obviously didn't hear it or weren't paying attention.
Moving on the room was honestly a joke. Pieces were broken / falling apart. It honestly seemed like they NEVER clean. It was just musty and uncomfortable. Additionally, for my people who are big escape room junkies, this room was almost so simple it wasn't fun and made you overthink since you are expecting something challenging. The room is very cheaply made and felt like not a single thought went into it. There were also parts of the puzzles that you would have no idea what to do with if the 'game master' didn't tell you which is always a bummer to me because its not something you necessarily can just 'figure out'.
They have a clock in the room but they do not tell you how much time you have left, we were told we needed to ask over the walkie for an update which again is fine, just not always something you want to remember while you are trying to focus on your experience in the room.
All in all, I can confidently say I will never go back. This was such a disappointment and absolutely not worth the...
Read moreWe visited Brainy Actz in November of 2018 and did the "The Legacy" escape room.
We found this room to be extremely frustrating. Upon being introduced to the room, we were instructed not to move any of the furniture. After being stuck for perhaps a quarter of the time, we discovered that access to almost half the room required moving a piece of furniture.
Puzzles were frustrating to solve, and often felt more like guessing games than puzzles, with pieces not fitting correctly, or creating multiple plausible answers. Mechanical and electronic aspects of the room were in poor repair, with some of the mechanisms failing to trigger correctly and needing to be manually forced. Wiring was falling off the ceiling in one area of the room. Some clues were inaccessible due to stuck or difficult to open cases, leading us to miss them as we trusted the "You won't need any strength greater than a 5 year old" rule.
Much of this could be pardoned with better game master interaction. For example, if a mechanism fails to trigger an attentive game master could say something like "You should have heard a click under that cabinet--why don't you go see what it was?" By contrast, our game master was difficult to get a hold of over the radio. We were repeatedly asked "how much time we had left", which struck as something the game master should be paying attention to, rather than something we needed to be tracking. Our game master also seemed to often be confused about our progress through the room. I initially thought that perhaps this was because they were attempting to manage multiple groups, but this turned out not to be the case. We were the only ones there at that time.
I have done a dozen different escape rooms at a variety of locations, and I recognize that things break, things go wrong, and so on. But the level of error, and the poor design of the room overall left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
In fairness to the establishment, they recognized that we had a less than positive experience, and gave us a partial refund and a voucher for a discounted game. If we return at a later date, I will update this review to reflect our...
Read more3 friends and I booked the base package for the Rage Room at the location in Reno, on Longley. We’re all going through some stressful things in life and thought this would be a great and fun release to do together. The only items available to smash were a few small glass bottles. There was left over sheet metal from TVs I think, so we could hit those, but nothing more to actually smash. It might be worth paying for add ons next time. But the main disappointment was that we couldn’t go in together. On the brainy actz website it says groups can go in together but I see they have many locations in different states so maybe each location has different rules.. it would have been very good to know before we booked. One of our friends didn’t even go in to do any of it because she only wanted to participate if we did it together. I thought maybe they’d refund us for one person since only 3 of us participated. But it is what it is. It wasn’t fun or releasing in any way to hit a few glass bottles all by yourself. We looked into other places in Reno and Sparks afterwards and their websites say you can smash things in their rooms as a group, so if you’re looking for a rage room, it might be worth checking in with those places before you book. The gentleman that helped us was very nice but the other people on site that worked there but were “off the clock” as they stated were loudly messing around and cussing and talking so it was a little off putting. We didn’t leave feeling happy with our experience unfortunately so wanted to put this out there for the transparency for others that are looking to book a...
