Got asked to leave my bag at the front, in these cubbies where anybody can grab your stuff. I’m a guy so I carry a small crossbody with me cuz I lost my phone once at a store cuz it fell out of my pocket so I feel more secure with a bag. But a lady walked in at the same time as me with a way bigger handbag & was not asked to leave hers at the front. I told them no cuz I carried my wallet in there as well. He was nice about it & let me go shop around, but the whole shopping trip I wasn’t comfortable because I felt like, now, they got their eyes on me & they think I’m gonna steal. The stuff is overpriced more now anyways, so I didn’t end up buying anything.
Update: Went back again the other day after not going for so long. Some stuff is priced okay, but they know what stuff people would really want and mark it up crazy high. Half the stuff that was overpriced was slashed and lowered cuz no one was buying them for those high prices. Also, you can hear them in the back and they don’t speak to their employees nicely, rather mean actually.
My favorite spot to look in thrift stores are the DVDs & cds, but at mega thrift, all the cases were taped shut. So you can’t open it to check and see that it is in good condition, not scratched up, and it is the correct disk. So I didn’t even bother looking through the selection anymore. When I go to other thrift stores such as Salvation Army, goodwill, etc they always ask if I checked the DVDs/cds to make sure they were okay before I buy them. So these other stores know that donated DVDs may not always be in the best condition and want to make sure you’re buying them in good condition. So mega thrift should definitely keep that in mind when selling these particular items. If you’re so paranoid about people stealing discs, then put security cameras directly in that area cuz majority of people will not buy DVDs/cds without being able to check their quality.
Lastly, was looking through the cart to narrow down my shopping choices and security was literally a foot away in the clothing isle just watching me. I looked over and smiled and he just stood there still staring blankly….. I guess if you’re shopping for a while they suspect you’ll be stealing. It’s a thrift store, it takes a long time to look through stuff….
Recent update: Went in to get Christmas stuff and all their ornament boxes are taped shut. How are we supposed to check and see that the ceramic ornaments inside are intact?? I just opened a ew of mine and many are broken inside. Shame on you for putting broken items on your shelf, taping the boxes shut, and selling them that way…. Very sketchy.
Edit: You guys REALLY need to work on your replies to customer reviews. There is absolutely NO accountability on your part and you just keep defending yourselves unprofessionally. You can’t say an employee wasn’t being rude to a reviewer who obviously first-hand experienced it. And also, you stated that you will still be enforcing the large purse policy, but my bag was only the size of a tiny book. But just cuz I’m a guy carrying a small crossbody doesn’t mean I’m going to steal. It just shows you don’t trust ANY of the customers that come thru your doors. How is anyone going to shop comfortably that way??? Learn how to conduct business better, take accountability, and learn how to speak to your customers...
Read moreI been going to this thrift store for a while is been long time since their AC is not working and is very hot inside and honestly I don’t think they care because we still go buy stuff, today I was there for almost 2 hours and I found a few dresss that I like because the tag color was 40% discount and the cashier right away have to call somebody because she was suspicious that the price was not correct!! This is the second time she does something like that to me , first time she didn’t let me buy the item because she said “somebody change the price” and I told her how come you think the price is not correct? Isn’t that the correct label ?and the correct handwriting that you guys do on the labels,? But she didn’t cared , is very frustrating that you spend 1-2 hours looking thought their clothes and at the time to pay they decide not to sell it to you Btw this is a regular dress and the price was down to $5.98 I was able to buy it after another lady told her it was nothing wrong with it , SHE TOLD ME THERES A LOT OF PEOPLE CHANGING TAGS EVERYDAY! Well I’m not one of them but she treated me like one !! UPDATE 2 MONTHS AFTER I POSTED THIS REVIEW I WENT TO MEGA THRIFT TO BUY STUFF on 8/13/24, THE CASHIER RECOGNIZE ME AND TOLD 2 LADIES (I don’t know if they are the owners or just employees) AND ONE OF THEM SNATCHED A THING THAT I HAD ON MY HAND READY TO PAY AND YELLED AT ME ASKING ME TO GET OUT OF THERE, ANOTHER LADY CAME TOO AND STARTED TO TELLING ME TO GET OUT THEY DONT WANT ME THERE BECAUSE OF THE REVIEW I POSTED, ANOTHER GUY (employee) TRIED TO INTIMIDATED ME ASKING ME FROM WHICH COUNTRY I WAS, THE LADY CALLED THE POLICE ON ME SAYING SHE WILL GET ME ARRESTED, WHEN THE POLICE CAME SHE TOLD THEM THAT MAKING A REVIEW WAS NOT A MOTIVE IN COURT TO GET ME ARRESTED, THE REAZON I DIDNT LEAVE WHEN THEY TOLD ME IS THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO LEAVE WITH ALL OF THEM BEHIND ME BEING THAT MAD, I DIDNT FELT SAFE AND I WAITED FOR THE POLICE TO WALKED ME OUT SAFELY, THEY SAID I LIED IN THE REVIEW BUT I DIDNT, THEY HAVE MANY BAD REVIEWS ON INTERNET, I returned to the store several time after the review because is in my community and all I did was keep supporting a business, the lady told me if I come back again they will make me get arrested BUT OF COURSE I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO A PLACE THAT INSTEAD OF TAKING A CLIENT’S REVIEW SERIOUSLY THEY CHOOSE TO TAKE IT PERSONALLY AND TRIED TO PUNISHED ME FOR TELLING MY SIDE OF THE STORY . I have video of all...
Read moreI love thrift stores because they give new life to used items and help reduce the reliance on cheap, unsustainable goods from places like exploitative Amazon. Plus, they offer affordable options for people who need to shop with less $$. That being said, MEGA is one of my favorites for second-hand shopping due to its wide selection of items. Here's a breakdown:
POSITIVE: -Large variety of clothes and sizes. -Great deals (based on tag color, certain hours, senior discounts, etc.). -Some really friendly and efficient staff. Shoutout to the hip red-haired lady, the guy with oldies on the radio, and the welcoming entrance staff. They’re AWESOME!
NEEDS IMPROVEMENT: -The tagging system is a huge annoyance. Security tags often leave holes or snags in items (especially on tops or purses), ruining perfectly good items. I've had to leave more than one item at the register because after seeing the security tag off, I see this big hole left behind that ruins the item
-The red marker on shoes' soles is tough to take out. I don't want to be kneeling at the church pew and flashing a big fat 19.98 in red marker to the person behind me
-Some new-tagged items are priced way too high. I get it that they're unused, but they’ve likely sat around for a while before hitting MEGA, so the markup feels unnecessary.
-jewelry is priced high and it's not particularly special. Mostly costume jewelry. The prices don't reflect that.
Overall, great place but could benefit from tweaks in pricing and...
