My only wish is that I had six stars to rate Conzatti's.
OK, not entirely true. Conzatti's is only open until 5:00pm. Monday thru Saturday. Which means if I want to shop there, I have to try to get there and back during my workday lunch break or wait until Saturday.
Today I went during lunch.
So what do I like about Conzatti's?
Small grocer atmosphere. Reminds me of family owned markets from my youth in the 1970's. Somewhat specialized...but THE place to get that specialized item. For Conzatti's....Italian groceries DeLallo and other labels...homemade soups (though I make my own)...prepared foods ..traditional round and Sicilian square...specialty store-made cookies...and butcher meats.
The take-n-bake pizzas I can top as I wish at home...traditional round or Sicilian square. First par-baked take-n-bakes I have found that crisp up at the same time the cheese melts but before it scorches. Yummy.
Pacifico (of Altoona) rolls and bread.
Store prepared or enhanced luncheon meats like baked ham.
Ground beef....currently 86/14 ground chuck is $3.99/pound... Which is at least $1 cheaper than any other place I know.
Today's discovery....store made garden salads. Iceberg lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumber, bell peppers. Bigger than a side salad and cookbook photo-perfect in appearance. Looks like the vegetables came from the garden that morning. At $4.50..I feel like I should hug the person who made this exceptional salad. I want another one for dinner.
I ate that salad quickly as my lunch break was technically over but next time. I promise to photograph and post the goodies I buy.
If you are in this area...do yourself a solid and check-out this great family-owned Italian...
Read moreWe had an order of 100 chicken tenders scheduled to be picked up for a childrenâs party. We called 2 weeks in advance to place the order and we also called 2 days prior to the party to verify the order. Whenever we showed up at the scheduled time, we were informed that our order was not ready and that the fryer wasnât even turned on. Nobody from the store even called to tell us that it wasnât ready. We had no choice but to wait as our party was starting, so we headed to the party venue (30 mins away) to drop off the other supplies we had picked up before stopping here. We called the store to tell them that we were not paying full price since their mistake was costing us time and money. The girl at the front desk had a terrible attitude and was extremely rude considering the mistake was on their end, not ours. The guy in the kitchen that we spoke to told us that it was not their fault and that we shouldâve called that day to verify the order, what a joke. He also made comments like âif you need it so bad then why arenât you here yetâ, well we werenât there yet because we had to drive 30 minutes to the party venue and then 30 minutes back to the store to pick up a LATE order. We got the price down eventually but the way that this situation was handled by staff was extremely unprofessional and it ultimately ended up costing our business, we definitely not be returning. Our business will go to a small business that actually...
Read moreMy mother and my aunt used to always buy from conzatti's back in the 80s and 90s. The spaghetti sauce was excellent then but I don't know what they did to the recipe but for a well known Italian store I didn't taste not even a hint of garlic and the same with the meatballs!! I would of been better off buying delgrossa sauce. As far as I am concerned I will never pay ever again for terrible tasting sauce, and I am Italian. They need to seriously redo the entire sauce recipe. I'm old school so I guess it was alot different years ago because whatever generation is making the sauce is not using any garlic whatsoever. Just terrible! Not to mention some of the employees are down right ignorant and can care less about how they treat the customers. If it wasn't for customers this place would of...
