I visited the store on December 3rd a little before 5:00pm and the store wasn’t busy at all except for the store clerk and one patron sitting at the table. Recently, I have visited both this store and the Lexington store various times over the last few months to pick up Magic the Gathering singles. I told the cashier I had a list of a few cards I wanted to pick up and he sighed, but said he could check for me. On his way to look for my first card, he was messing around with a box cutter and sliced his finger open. I had to then wait for him to bandage himself up. Then as he was looking for the cards I realized the other person in the store was his friend who was currently asking him to trade cards. He looked up about 10 cards for me and I had a few more I was going to ask for when he abruptly cut me off, gave me my total, and finished the transaction. I was caught off guard and stunned, which I shouldn’t have been considering the whole time he was less than enthused to look for the cards for me. Each one I asked for was a pained sigh that he was actually having to go to work and do his job instead of sit around with his friend. I was also going to buy some cards in the case, but didn’t have the chance to even do so since he abruptly ended the transaction. Before I could even get out of the store he had left from behind the counter and went to sit at the table with his friend. I’ve worked retail and I understand that it can be boring at times, but the store was completely empty and I was more than willing to spend money. I have always had a great experience at store in Lexington, and taken bigger lists with no issues and cashiers always happy to help, but I definitely will not be returning to the Richmond location and I will be thinking twice about going back to the one in Lexington as this event has left a bad taste in my mouth. Now I see the other negative experiences reviewers have posted as well and wished I had done a little more research before purchasing, I like to support local businesses, but I could have easily chosen to go online and order from TCG Player and had the cards at my door in a few days with no attitude and honestly probably saved money in...
Read moreIt's always one staff member that is just the rudest to me. I had it happen before, didn't write a review because it's a small business and I understand what it's like to run a small business but this needs to be said. I have spent, now, a thousand dollars in a matter of 2 weeks there and had no problems before this in the 2 weeks I have been buying cards. I went in, didn't even get as much as a look or a hello so I had to greet the employee. When I did this I got a hi, nothing more. I then traded in cards and didn't know the price on some things so I said pull the bulk out, I don't want to sell it if it's bulk. She looked up the cards, gave me a total that I thought was about 20/30 dollars off. Didn't say much about to her, then asked what was bulk. She said she just added to whole total of the bulk and what was worth money together, even though I wanted it put aside. At this point I just don't want to deal with this employee anymore so I just take the offer. All this time I'm trying to be as nice as possible, I work in the service industry so I try to have the mindset of "I don't know what they are going through, try to be nice" but the way I was treated was the worst I've been treated by an employee in the service industry. Other than keeping bad staff, great products to buy. Won't be back, I'll drive to...
Read moreI should begin by saying I’m a player returning to Magic The Gathering after a cessation of play ranging from roughly the Gatecrash era of Magic (roughly a decade ago). I only am able to come play commander on Sundays.
I want to like this store more than I currently do at the moment. The staff is accommodating and friendly; I’ve never had a bad experience with trades or selling.
My only whinge is that in the players. I’ve never had anyone be rude or crass, but the majority are simply not there to play casual commander. Even whenever I have clearly stated that I’m a returning player using pre-constructed commander decks. It can be a rather disheartening experience when you want to play the game, and even when you show up to do so… you can’t because the other players around you are playing with vastly stronger decks.
That being said, if you’re looking to throw down some cards and play higher level EDH/Commander games, this store is for you! If you are like me and are a returning, or a new player, I would...
