When in Richmond you drink Richmond hazmat! Checked out Reservoir Distillery and got to try their Hazmat Wheat, Hazmat Bourbon, and Hazmat Rye they had on offer.
Hazmat Wheat - 141.8 proof, lots of licorice, vanilla, slight creme brûlée and grain on the nose, palate had some brown sugar notes and a very nice finish.
Hazmat Bourbon - 142 proof, this was a blend of their 10 year 100% corn and 5 year 100% wheat and it was incredible. Caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, some toffee, and sweet oak. Palate just about matched it with some additional toffee notes to it. I love this and I wish they had some left to purchase.
Hazmat Rye - 144.2 proof normally I’m not a rye guy but this was nice, heavy baking spices, burnt brown sugar, earthy notes to the end with some rye spice, the palate was about the same but the finish left a lingering vanilla note that was really nice.
I really suggest checking this place out if you get a chance to go!!
Also shout out to our bartender Tyla they were absolutely incredible and did an awesome job...
Read moreCocktails were good, and their alcohol on its own was good too! The place is super cute and I love the atmosphere so much!!! I definitely recommend any of their cocktails, and the pure rye drink was delicious!
But unfortunately whoever was working there on 9/8/25 at 6pm was a little rude. We asked about their other alcohol and she just said "lots of different things, we do that for a reason" and then stopped talking. We were going to purchase something but that kinda put us off since we didn’t get to learn about it. I would understand if she had a bad day or was shy, but she was so much more talkative to the people who came in after us. I promise we weren't rude, we were just tired from being in a car for 72 hours. We tried to make conversation and she ignored us but talked to the next people a lot :( I’m unsure what we did, but it definitely soured the...
Read moreSkip the brewers and run to Reservoir Distillery. In a neighborhood with 10+ breweries, two cideries and a meadery, Reservoir stands as the only distillery. Here's why you should go:
Spirits: They distill small-batch bourbon, whiskey and rye and it's mighty fine. There's a small bar inside where you can do $15 tastings. We left with a large bottle of their whiskey for $80.
Space: Located inside a 100+ year old warehouse that was once a Canada Dry and Schweppes facility, a small tasting room is in the front with production in the back. They offer free tours by their head distiller.
Neighborhood: Scott's Addition is an industrial neighborhood now with top restaurants and bars. Murals, including one on Reservoir's building, color the...
