you would think this venue is in the middle of nowhere with the utter lack of consideration they show to the residential buildings they share an alley with.
having lived on the shared block of grace street these last four years, this last year, the broadberry went from being a fun venue to becoming a noise disturbance. whether 2 pm or 1:30 am, if they have an event going on, i can tell! why? because the sound is so loud that the bass shakes my apartment building. sometimes for hours. it stresses out my dog when it goes late into the night. if its loud enough to shake the neighboring buildings, imagine the long term damage it could be causing on those same century-old buildings?
i was recently informed by friends in oregon hill that the Goth Babe show, presented by the broadberry, at browns island, was comparably boisterous. specifically, that the sound levels were much higher compared to the other events at browns, such as friday cheers. imagine how (not) shocked i was to hear it was a broadberry event.
the last issue i have— which has less to do with sound but still regarding quality— yall have not had any kind of consistency with the genres you book. the broadberry used to be booked regularly with fun shows, with names we all knew. so many shows sold out. i can’t remember the last time i went to a show here. in a time where this city is in need of good, quality venues…. actually… the last time i went to the broadberry…. noma was still there.
anyways. maybe you should have your sound tech hear how far the sound within the broadberry carries after nightfall. or maybe they need a hearing evaluation. or maybe! yall should keep the side door closed.
sorry for the frustrated/rude tone. today, it was 6 hours of (subjectively bad) music that was audible from within my bedroom,...
Read moreI had an awful experience here. I left and apparently there’s no re-entry which I respected. I waited for my friends in the lobby area until a bouncer inside decided to let me in. When I went inside, I immediately went to the bathroom because there isn’t one in the lobby and I had been waiting half an hour. After that, my friends and I were on the way out when a different “bouncer” grabbed me by the wrists and started dragging me so hard that I fell down. He never asked me to leave and he did not tell me he was security. If there was a problem, they could have told me and my friends to leave (which we were doing anyways). He also laughed and smiled while I asked him who he was —instead of identifying himself as an employee. What could have been us leaving peacefully turned into me believing that I was being kidnapped. Terrible security escalated the situation unnecessarily.
I want to update this review because I think it's really important to give people and businesses a chance to acknowledge their mistakes. I contacted the business and the owners/ management were extremely dismissive of this incident. The music was great but please do not risk going here as a young woman. If something happens to you, security will be no help and management will not take any...
Read moreYears ago when RVA was not NoVa, it was a great spot for music.
The Broadberry is not a great spot for music. It's a money hungry "members first" place that charges outrageous fees, and its clear that in today's Richmond venues like Broadberry are for rich people, not regular local Richmond music fans.
Now, you have to pay from $60-$2500 (!!!) per year to join a "membership club" for access to a certain number of tickets and preferential tickets. If you can't afford that, good luck because it's so small that you will never get a table, or even the option for GA to any popular or well known show. There is a giant pole that blocks the view for plebians that can't afford $2500 a year for the luxury of acres access. OR- check out the employees giving access to their friends.
I remember when outdoor concerts were free in Richmond, with great bands. Now that Broadberry has taken those over, tickets are $30-40 each not including "service fee". It's pathetic to use Ticket master as your business model, but the owners of Broadberry Ent Group saw $$$$ in the Richmond music scene and want to exploit it for every penny.
Man do I miss Strange Matter, and pre NoVa...
