Once in a lifetime you seek out and find perfection, a timeless example of artisanal craftsmanship and the confectioners art. More fantasy than reality, yet it exists and is accessible to mortal man. It is this level of commitment to perfection that so obviously drives River Forest Chocolates it makes you smile that nirvana on earth exists. There is a modest yet exquisite store in upcoming River Forest that houses the life's work of a lady and family who settle for nothing but the very best. You can go there daily and for reasonable prices bring home natural healthy gourmet smiles and happiness to your family. Who is this poster and why should my opinion matter? My dad Peter Nichols owned the Original Buffalo Ice Cream Parlor and Candy Shoppe on Irving and Pulaski. Ten thousand malted milk shakes and hand whipped cream later, I know something about sweets. My distant cousin, the late great legendary John Stefanos put his life's work into Cupid Candies at 76th and Western. His family sold Cupid Candies and the Original DOVE BAR for over a hundred years. Add to this I regularly drive to Moline just to eat at legendary one hundred year old Lagomarcino's ice cream parlor, I know something about chocolate and sweets and candy and ice cream. River Forest Chocolates uses certifiably the best freshest natural ingredients to produce a NO COMPROMISE- BEST OF CLASS product. You can see, feel , smell and taste the dedication to quality. I will stick my neck out and say THERE IS NONE BETTER. Fresh sweet tart world class apples covered with fully one quarter inch of thick buttery real caramel is something everyone deserves to have at least once a week. The finest melt in your mouth chocolates and ice cream and candied orange peel in dark chocolate (!) The motto of River Forest Chocolates is obviously akin to what Sir Henry Royce said...STRIVE FOR PERFECTION IN EVERYTHING YOU DO. DO NOT SETTLE FOR ADEQUATE OR SECOND BEST. IF THE BEST IS NOT AVAILABLE CREATE IT, REENVISION IT OR INVENT IT. Recommended without hesitation... TEN STARS...the lady in the kitchen is not seeking generic common fame or wealth. She is on a mission from GOD to make the world happy by bringing a little piece of Heaven to River Forest. You have to see and taste it to believe what magic dedicated gourmets can do when they dedicate their lives to regularly producing the best chocolate and natural fresh candy the world...
Read moreI love this place as a customer, recipient of a chocolate delight, and now as a friend!
If you are out shopping for a gift for the person who has everything this is the place to go! If you are in a difficult mood and need a little joy in your day, this is the place to go!
In fact, if you need a little eatable nostalgia in your day, you must go to River Forest Chocolates.
I received a birthday gift of the finish chocolate I have ever tasted from this magnificent establishment. It literally left a grand slam taste in my mouth. Waiting a whole year, my wife and I traveled to “RFC” to return the thoughtfulness on our well-known friend’s birthday!
Unknowingly my wife and I were blessed with a unique, joy-filled experience.
We spent hours in this beautifully decorated chocolate boutique. It triggered pleasant childhood memories. Putting aside our concerns for diet, weight loss and sugar challenges we bought and tasted everything. Boy! Did we have fun!
Comparing our adventure to an “amusement park for treats” this 69 year old childhood dream exceeded my bucket-list! Compared to a serving of Single Malt Scotch the priceless chocolates were like a gratuity!
The staff is just as sweet as the confectionery choice. The shop’s Founder-Owner, Chocolatier, and knowledgeable and patient hostess and Tour-guide are anonymously all First Class.
Vanessa and I will be back, but we won’t wait a year. There is no guilt! The Joy and happiness from the experience exceeded the guilty pleasure from our chocolate shopping excursion!
Best Wishes for a Spiritually Productive Day!
Much Love,
Lamar and Vanessa...
Read moreI found this sweet shop by accident a little over five years ago when I moved into the area, and it’s been a source of comfort treats for myself and my family every since. When you walk into the place there is a warmth that greets you the moment that you step foot into the door, and it doesn’t just come from the cooking and baking that goes on there. Donna, the owner is extremely personable, pleasant and helpful. In my opinion she’s not just selling candy, she wants you to walk away with an experience. The sweets that are my family’s favorite are the tortoises and there are a variety to choose from. I personally like visiting the wall of chocolate covered nuts, from almonds, to cashews to pecans. Amaretto pecans, there’s even Grand Marnier chocolate covered nuts too, who does that? River Forest Chocolates does, that’s who. I can see that Donna takes pride in the brand that’s she’s built and that is why she continues to grow. Donna, I want to say thank you for helping me wrap my gift when I just wanted to put it in a bag and present it with chocolate. The personal touch with the wrapping was not only beautiful, it made my present even sweeter and I felt and looked like the hero. I wish you all the best and continued success, and yes a cozy cafe would be nice. When you love what you do it shows. A very special thank you to Lori too, who helps this place seem magical and fun with...
