Old School Tavern — Restaurant in Proviso Township

I went here recently with my boo and we bought the Groupon. I live close by and I've been wanting to go for awhile. We went in top grab some drinks after dinner. It was Friday night and the place was really empty. Even the patio. I think they're in a weird spot. That's the only reason I can think of as to why they were so empty.

Any who,we ordered the beer of the month. It was a brewery I'd never heard of so I was excited to try it. They didn't have it. And the bartender said they hadn't gotten it yet and she didn't know when they would get it. I replied back that it was they beer of the month. She knew how crazy that sounded and apologized.

We ended up ordering fries and a mint julep. Both were pretty good. Was friendly but I kinda felt like I wasn't apart of the crowd. The bartender paid more attention to her regulars (as she should've) but it still felt weird.

Love this place - cozy neighborhood sports bar atmosphere with truly excellent food, a great rotating beer menu, and very reasonable prices. There are often games or music on, but never so loud that you can't have a conversation. All of the food we've tried has been delicious! Never once had a bad dish or experience! We stopped in on a whim for lunch and quickly became regulars after tasting the burgers, rustic potato salad, and brussel sprouts. There are different daily food specials and a surprising list of high-end options (e.g. Wagyu beef burgers, lamb dip, Mediterranean mushroom sandwich) for such a casual setting. The staff is great, the chef is on point, the beers are frosty, and the meatloaf dinner on Thursday is worth a special visit. If you're looking for a relaxed place to have a great meal, a cold drink, and a conversation, I can't recommend the Old School...

This was a pleasant surprise. It wasn't completely empty when we walked in. The menu is different from what's on the website. I came in thinking I would have the fried chicken Monday special. But it wasn't offered. Both the hub and I went for the prime burger. I had it with Cole slaw he had it with fries. Nothing disappointed. The Cole slaw was made differently than we ever tasted and we guessed all the ingredients except the garlic. The burger was quite tasty - though I couldn't finish mine, he downed everything. I took mine home with every intention of eating it later but that didn't happen. Guess we'll just have to go back.
