The experience that we have had at Golden Paws has been, undoubtedly, exceptional. Prior to their opening in Robbinsville, our Goldendoodle stayed at two other pet resort/daycare facilities in the area. While we never had a particularly negative experience at either, we did not feel as though they quite hit the mark (one was a bit more cost-effective but lacking in facilities, the other had increased their prices but not their services). Golden Paws was recommended to us by a few folks who had similar experiences at those two facilities as well. Since bringing our Goldendoodle to Golden Paws in 2018, she has enjoyed great grooming and daycare options; we didn't think it could get any better, to be honest!
Then, in the summer of 2020, we welcomed a Bernedoodle puppy into our home. We needed a daycare and training option, due to our unpredictable and erratic work schedules (thanks to the pandemic). We knew that one of the other local facilities had an extensive training program with a world-renown dog trainer. The price tag was steep, but we were willing to have her evaluated to get the full scope of what we'd be paying for. The "interview/assessment" of our puppy was not an interview or an assessment. It was a 3 minute sales pitch from the aforementioned World-Renown Dog Trainer, which ended with "when would you like to start?" He did not interact one-on-one with our puppy, nor did he ask questions about the skills that we wanted her to learn. He did not ask about our lifestyle or if we had previously owned a dog. That's when I called Golden Paws...
Not only did I get a full description of the training program, and not only did the informative receptionist answer every question that I had, but they offered a true day-long assessment of our puppy (which included daycare for the balance of the time until we could pick her up) that was at no charge. The cost of the puppy day school at Golden Paws was literally 1/4 of the cost of the World-Renown Dog Trainer, and it was a longer training program, coupled with a more communicative staff.
Our Bernedoodle was both incredibly cared for and well-trained during her weeks at puppy day school, which was evidenced by her behavior at home and how genuine the staff and trainers were with her arrival and departure. When we attended our training session to learn how she was taught, we were told by the trainer (Sarah) that even though her puppy training was over, we could always call her with questions and she would give us some guidance. I can't say that we wouldn't have received the same service with the World-Renown Dog Trainer, but our initial meeting with that person did not leave me with that impression.
Both of our girls have attended many fun themed days at Golden Paws, continue to be groomed there, and it is always a relief and comfort to know that they are in the best of care while we're at work. The entire staff at Golden Paws are professional, empathic, informed, attentive, and it is apparent that they love the important work that they do. It speaks volumes about Golden Paws that the staff is happy in the work place.
I cannot offer a higher recommendation for quality of care, cost-effective services, and peace of mind for any pet parent who is looking for a reputable facility that they can trust. Golden Paws has been a true lifesaver for us and we're grateful for them! Olive + Nathalie love it there...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOur pet, Rocky, stayed at Golden Paws from Nov 6th through November 11th. When I came to pick up Rocky and walk him outside I noticed that his fur had a dark yellowish tint to it. I picked him up to put him in the car and I noticed that his body was covered in a overwhelming smell of urine. I brought him back inside Golden Paws and mentioned that his fur was completed covered in urine. A staff member came from the back and tried wiping his paws down with a wet nap. This didn't help since the urine was dried onto his fur and it was all over his body, from his paws, knees, torso, etc. I had to suggest that he needed a bath in order to remove the scent. The front desk workers initially told me that they could give the dog a bath, but I would have to come back in a few hours to pick him up. I told them that I could not do this since I do not live locally in the area. The staff finally agreed to give him a bath while I waited.
While he was given a bath, I was told that the dried urine was most likely due to him spilling his water bowl. That didn't make any sense to me and I conveyed the same to the staff. Overall, I was highly dissatisfied with the response from the staff. I felt like my concerns were minimized and they never offered any means of resolving the situation. A bath was not even mentioned until I suggested it.
Overall, I was highly disappointed with the experience. It was evident to me that our pet spent a SIGNIFICANT portion of 5 days standing in his own urine without any sort of attention. Additionally, after we brought him home he had no voice and he was noticeably skinnier. I can only surmise that no attention was paid to our pet and he was in a HIGHLY distressed state for a good portion of 5 days. This is while we were charged $270 for the stay. I would think that for over a $50/day boarding fee, the pet would receive some type of attention from the staff.
Additionally, my wife left a 1 star review of the resort and noticed that very shortly thereafter, facebook users were only able to choose the option to recommend the resort as a yes/no. There was no longer an option to provide an overall star rating. I found this to be highly suspicious.
I'm taking the time to write this review to provide a cautionary experience to other customers. For the amount charged to customers for a nightly boarding fee, you wouldn't expect that your pet would be spending each day confined to a small space without any type of attention or maintenance. Our pet will not stay at the resort again and we will be cautioning others about our experience at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a horrible experience with this place. I have two lab mixes that are familiar with Camp Bow Wow in Lawrenceville and have went for a few years. I was looking for a new place to take them because one of my dogs has high anxiety around other animals. GPRS made me aware that they can handle him as well as train him so he would once again be comfortable around other dogs. I brought them so they can be acclimated to their resort. Both dogs were excited about going and greeted the girls at the front desk. I spoke with the trainer that did see my one dog has anxiety and he got to know him for about 15mins to ease the anxiety. I stopped by later around 3pm to check on things and found both of my dogs in separate solitary confinement, my dog with anxiety was YELPING. They told me that they were afraid for their staffs safety to have the two of them together. I explained that the staff doesn't have to worry and the staff should get to know them. I also made them aware my dog has prescription meds for anxiety and they're causing more harm than good. When they came home they both drank full bowls of water, they urinated extensively and both went #2 twice. I have a feeling they were left in the dark rooms all day and were not let outside or walked. I was willing to pay them $1000 to stay over night for a week that I will be away. I was also willing to pay $2500 for training for 4 weeks. I will never bring my dogs back here again. I also spoke with the general manager to tell her I had a bad experience and to see if we can have a redo but the general manager was nothing but defensive and gave conflicting information from what I received yesterday. I would rather take my dogs...
